Who is Caliban and what is his true story?

This weekend season 3 of ‘Sabrina’s Hidden World’ premiered and it came full of problems and difficult decisions for Sabrina and her friends.

In order to rescue Nick from Hell, Sabrina is forced to accept the throne of Hell (remember that she is the daughter of Lucifer himself).

However, her plans are thwarted by Caliban, a handsome and perverse prince, who in addition to being supposedly made of clay, intends to take the position of our beloved witch.

But the real story of this character is far from what Netflix showed us, so in this note we will tell you the truth and nothing but the truth about Caliban.

Who is Caliban?

Caliban’s original story is quite different from what is seen in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

It turns out that Caliban is a character from the play The Tempest, written by William Shakespeare.

In this text Caliban was not born in hell nor is he made of clay, but is the son of a powerful witch named Sycorax and a demon.

Sycorax lived in Algeria; However, when the town learns that she has been impregnated by a devil, she is exiled to an island, where she gives birth to Caliban and dies shortly afterward.

Thus, Caliban is raised alone and becomes a primitive and violent man, with an unpleasant appearance that many describe as half-human, half-fish.

One day, a man named Prospero and his daughter Miranda arrive to occupy the island. Caliban, upon seeing Miranda, tries to abuse her, so Prospero makes him her slave.

Faced with so much mistreatment, Claiban begins to harbor hatred and resentment towards Prospero.

That’s why when the shipwrecked Estefano arrives by chance on the island, Caliban assumes that he is a god and puts himself at his service.

However, he is disappointed to discover that Stephano is not a god, but a mortal just like Prospero and him.

Caliban: who is the actor who plays him?

In Sabrina’s Hidden World, the person in charge of giving life to the Prince of Hell is the 24-year-old Australian model Sam Corlett.

Caliban is one of the first roles in his acting career. Before this character he had appeared in some short films in 2018 and several plays in his native South Wales.

To bring Caliban to life, Sam says he was inspired by art:

“I was in a Doors phase, so I tried to channel the energy of Jim Morrison and a little bit of Michael Hutchence from INXS.

“Then I read a lot about hell and there was a particular quote from Dante’s Inferno that inspired me.”

Without a doubt, his performance in the Netflix series has put him on the map for many fans, so it is very likely that we will continue to see him in the following installments.
