The true and intense love story between Elvis and Priscilla Presley

When Elvis and Priscilla first met, she was just 14 years old while he was 24. The girl’s parents were worried about their relationship, but Priscilla was passionate and rebellious, and nothing and no one could stop her from being with the king of rock. For Elvis, the age difference was not an obstacle, but a chance to make Priscilla the “ideal wife”. It would be a perfect marriage, but there was something the relationship couldn’t hide for long…

O awesome.club decided to research a little beyond appearances into the story of Elvis and Priscilla and brings you the real story.

The beginning

Elvis and Priscilla met in Germany in 1959. The singer was sent to the country because he was serving in the army. Priscilla had gone to Germany with her family, as her father was also in the military—he served in the Air Force. The young woman was invited to visit the king of rock and was very excited. She caught the attention of the singer, who played some songs especially for the then barely out of childhood Priscilla – who, as we said, was 14 years old.

“I noticed that Elvis was trying to get my attention. I noticed that the less interest I returned, the more he started singing just for me. I couldn’t believe that Elvis Presley was trying to impress me,” recalls Priscilla.

The young woman did not believe that the star would be able to contact her again and was sure that the first date would be the last. But he returned. After a few days, the girl’s parents concluded that it was necessary to personally meet the famous singer who was interested in their daughter. Priscilla recalls that Elvis arrived dressed in a style her father loved. The two had a long conversation, and at that moment, Priscilla’s parents were so enamored with the king of rock that they let them continue to meet.

Priscilla was a very beautiful young woman, who received many looks from her classmates. She recalls that a photo of her wearing a tight coat was once stolen from the school bulletin board. Although Priscilla’s age posed an obstacle to their relationship (if she went public, it would damage the singer’s image), the two continued to meet.

Elvis liked the fact that Priscilla was inexperienced and the age difference wasn’t an issue for him. The singer saw this fact as his chance to “shape” the perfect wife for himself. He once even said to a friend, “She’s young enough that I can raise her any way she wants to.”

Priscilla even remembers that Elvis came to express this idea directly and bluntly to her. “On nights when he was relaxed, he would describe his ideal woman and say how perfectly I fit that image. He liked soft-spoken brunettes with blue eyes. And he wanted to mold me to his opinions and preferences. Fidelity was very important to him…especially on the part of his wife.”

Marriage and family life

In 1960, Elvis left Germany, while Priscilla and her family stayed. The two saw each other occasionally, when he asked her to come to the US — which was for several years before they were finally married. Priscilla remembers those years as an “animated thriller,” where she awaited Elvis’ infrequent calls and counted down the days to the next date. She also heard a lot of gossip about his love affairs with other women, which ranged from ordinary girls to celebrities.

Elvis proposed to her in 1966 and the two were married in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967. He felt pressured to marry because he feared possible scandal if he didn’t. However, he continued to “shape” his wife to fully meet his own expectations. Priscilla, who later called herself the “living Elvis doll,” put porcelain on her teeth, improved her posture, dyed her hair black and wore a hairstyle to match the king’s image.

On February 1, 1968, Priscilla gave birth to their daughter, Lisa Marie. After becoming a mother, she felt that Elvis lost interest in her. As was the case before the wedding, the star continued to have love affairs with other women and Priscilla continued to find love letters addressed to her husband. Over time, she realized that she was unwilling to tolerate this situation.

“My life was his life. He who had to be happy; my problems were secondary. I wanted to grow up and do things,” he said in an interview. She has grown tired of the pressure of having to live up to her husband’s expectations and admits that she never appeared before the star’s eyes without makeup and that she never dressed in front of him: “Elvis wanted to see the end result”.

Divorce and the Decline of the King

In 1972, Priscilla told Elvis that she was leaving him. Soon, the two divorced and began to share custody of their daughter. While single Priscilla was flourishing and trying to finally gain control of her own life, Elvis became addicted to medication and struggled financially. The singer had several affairs after marrying Priscilla and even asked Ginger Alden, a girlfriend, to marry him.

But there was no time for that second marriage. On August 16, 1977, Elvis was found dead — it was precisely Ginger who found him. He was 42 years old. Priscilla was devastated when she learned of her ex-husband’s death. She came to believe that Elvis had entered a hospital to hide from the public eye, be alone for a while and come back later. It was shocking.

Despite bumps throughout their marriage, Priscilla and Elvis remained close even after their split. She remembers how the star used to call her to share his concerns and how she cherished every call. After the divorce, Priscilla started a career as an actress and business woman. She never remarried but had a long relationship in which she gave birth to a son, Navarone.

Elvis’ ex-wife turned the Graceland mansion, where she lived with the star, into a kind of museum, as a way to raise funds. Graceland thus became the second most visited home in the US, after the White House. Priscilla became a kind of “depositary” of the memory of the king of rock. She participates in events dedicated to his music and still calls him “the love of life”.
