You may not even know Eduardo Kobra by name. But, if you live in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro or even abroad, you may have personally seen one of his works. Kobra is one of the best known muralists in Brazil and the world. And his works are impressive.

O awesome.club will tell you who this artist is so important to Brazilian culture and how he built his career.

Trajectory

Kobra has already carried out more than 500 works in Brazil and in 17 other countries. He started drawing on walls, as a tagger, during his adolescence. He later became a graffiti artist and now considers himself a muralist.

Muralism is characterized by the execution of large murals on popular themes or national propaganda. His ‘canvases’ are large buildings and urban works.

Two world records

The Wall of Ethnicities, a gigantic panel produced in 2016 for the Olympic Games, symbolizes the union of the ethnicities of 5 continents. It is made up of the faces of 5 different indigenous groups:

Huli, from New Guinea (Oceania) Mursi, from Ethiopia (Africa) Kayin, from Thailand (Asia) Supi, from Europe Tapajós, from the Americas.

The work is over 15 meters high and 170 meters long, being considered the largest graffiti in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.

Some time later, Kobra surpassed his own record, with a wall of almost 6 thousand square meters with a work in honor of chocolate, on Rodovia Castello Branco, in São Paulo. The mural is now the largest in the world.

Wall of Memories

look at peace

In this project Kobra portrays historical personalities who fought against violence, in order to spread a culture of peace around the world. Its purpose is to convey messages of brotherhood.

That is why he has portrayed personalities such as the Indian activist Mahatma Gandhi, the victim of the holocaust Anne Frank and the German scientist Albert Einstein.

international day

The first mural he made outside Brazil was in Lyon, France, in 2011. Kobra was invited to participate in a revitalization process in the city and, since then, he has not stopped being invited to international projects. He has already registered his works in countries such as India, Japan, Italy, England and the United States, among others.
