Step by step of the striped effect on the wall

the blogger Valeria Batista, from São Paulo, always wanted to have a striped wall, for her the stripes can make the environment sophisticated or fun. When her house was finished she believed she could only achieve this effect with wallpaper. As each roll cost R$80 – and she would need to use about four pieces – she decided to look for a more economical alternative.

I remembered a practical trick I saw in decoration magazines to create the same pattern: use masking tape and paint! I decided to paint the bedroom wall and the office wall. I took advantage of the remains of paint left over from the work and ended up not spending anything on the office! For my bedroom, I bought three cans of paint in different shades. I spent about $50.

First, I marked where the stripes would go with a ruler and pencil. Then I passed the masking tape and applied the paint with a foam roller. On the bedroom wall, I made horizontal stripes in shades of lilac, which are relaxing. It was cozy and quiet, just like I wanted. In the office, I opted for vertical stripes. I made a joke with several colors to create a very cheerful room! Thus, I left the work environment lighter. Mission Accomplished!

With the help of adhesive tapes, Valeria simulated the effect of wallpaper. Check how to do it below

2 – I applied masking tape to the wall and smoothed it out well to avoid ink getting into the edges.

3 – Using a foam roller, I painted the empty spaces with the colors I had chosen. The brush forms scratches that are difficult to cover in subsequent coats and should only be used for finishing.

4 – Correct the blurred parts with a brush and white paint.

Tips not to make mistakes:

– Have a clean, dry cloth and a damp cloth on hand to remove ink spills.

– Do not use very thin paint, as it can run and stain the lower stripes. To prevent this from happening, start by painting the stripes from top to bottom.

– If you want to use bold colors, have a paint roller for each one.

– Wait at least two days to touch up the spots with white paint.

– Be careful not to bump into the paint pots.
