Skincare by age: skin care at each stage of life –

Ok, we already understood that taking care of skin it’s very important. Now, should our care remain the same over time? If even our diet has to change periodically (sometimes following the seasons!), why would it be any different with our skincare routine? That’s why, today, we’re going to better understand what to prioritize at each stage of life when it comes to skin care.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE SKIN AND ITS NEEDS

to the dermatologist Dr. Bianca Viscomi, the needs of our skin do vary over time. This is not only related to the natural aging of the skin, but also to the hormonal influence (and fluctuation) over the years.

“Skin cells, like every other cell in the body, suffer from the aging process – which means progressive loss of function,” she explains. “So, over decades, in addition to hormonal changes, there is also a longer period of exposure to external factors, which determine an acceleration of aging and, together with that, there is intrinsic aging in each cell.”

That is, your skincare must keep up with all these changes. Some precautions are basic and common to all ages, such as photoprotection (Have you applied sunscreen today?), but the other steps of this care routine must be prescribed according to the needs of each decade of life.

For example, 20-year-old skin requires less hydration than 50-year-old skin.”For people in their 20s, we prescribe actives that serve to prevent aging. As for people in their 50s, we opted for actives that serve to ‘correct’ already installed signals”, he continues.

ERRORS AND ERRORS IN SKIN CARE

In this process of changes and adaptations, a very common mistake, according to the doctor, is self-prescription: that is, when the patient buys products without knowing if they are suitable for her skin type. A classic example is acids, which can irritate, hurt and generate skin reactions, or inappropriate moisturizers for that specific skin type.

“The ideal is always to see a dermatologist to have a care routine prescribed especially for your skin type and never rely on what is seen on television, social networks or even ‘copying’ a friend’s recipe”, recommends.

Still, it’s important to keep in mind that, despite the specifics changing, the basics are and always will be the basics and remain constant in all phases of life. So, write it down, these are the steps that you will always keep in your routine. skincare:

Daily skin cleaningsince pollution also accelerates cell aging, with the release of free radicals;
Photoprotectionthat is, the use of sunscreen, because ultraviolet radiation also accelerates aging, in addition to the risk of skin cancer.

But it doesn’t stop there, after all, not only skincare live healthy skin. Keep a nutritional track is also important in these cases, especially a diet rich in antioxidants. Furthermore, sleep is another point of attentionas the body needs rest to repair damage done to the skin and in all other bodies.

“The priority of care is with regard to prevention. So, preventive care such as photoprotection, proper skin cleansing (to protect against pollution damage, as it is already something well documented that accelerates aging), topical vitamin C and a good diet are enough”, he says.

at age 30

“The more specific care begins. Photoprotection and cleanliness are maintained at all ages, as they are essential care. And, from the age of 30, we add ‘anti-aging’ actives, as is the case with vitamin A derivatives (retinoids)”, he says. Here, it is also recommended to start the first office care. It is already possible to start the application of botulinum toxin and lasers, also with the aim of prevention for the following decades.

From 40 years old

“In-office care is intensified. Now is the time to apply collagen bio stimulator and fillers. And, over the coming decades, new actives are added to the skincare routine. At age 50, for example, it is very important to pay attention to skin hydration. So, the care routine is getting richer and the procedures in the office are intensifying.”
