Signs: elements, rhythms and polarities

Have you heard about positive and negative signs in Astrology? If you thought this meant that there are “good” signs and “bad” signs, know that this is not the case. Let’s understand what, in fact, the polarity of the signs means.

There are 12 zodiac signs, right? We can divide or group these 12 signs in various ways. The most common and frequent way to divide them is through elements, rhythms and polarities.

When we divide the signs by element, we are putting each one in a box that can be fire, earth, air or water. That is: action, sensoriality, thought and emotion, respectively.

With that, I already hinted that when we talk about positives and negatives, we are not referring to good or bad characteristics, but to the polarities of an energy. Two opposite and complementary poles of a force (just like in a pile).

In my opinion, it is easier to see when we look at it from an eastern perspective, from the Yin and Yang perspective (did the symbol come to mind?). So, that’s exactly it: the extremes complement each other so that there is a universal balance.

If one day you hear someone talking about feminine and masculine signs, it is important that you also understand that we are not talking about gender, but about energy.

So, to illustrate, look at the scheme below:

Positive, Masculine, Active, Yang = Fire and Air = Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Negative, Feminine, Passive, Yin = Earth and Water = Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

It is important to say that your personality (your temperament seen as a whole) probably has a predominance in one of the two polarities, in this case I will adopt Yin and Yang.

This means that if you are more Yang (masculine/positive), you are probably more outgoing. He is a person who, as Geraldo Vandré wrote, “knows and makes the time, does not wait for it to happen”. But that also doesn’t mean you’re like that in any situation.

How does the polarity of the signs work in practice?

Now you will understand what I mentioned at the beginning of the article.

Still using the same example: it is not because you are an Aryan (you have the Sun in Aries), that you have more fire (the element of the sign) or be positive (the polarity of the same), or you can be considered a Yang type person. This will be defined according to the totality, looking at your Astral Map.

But let’s say yes, that on the whole you’re more of the positive/Yang type, extrovert. If the Universe has placed an ascendant in a negative/feminine/Yin sign in your recipe, like Capricorn for example, at least at first glance, you tend to be a little more withdrawn. The opposite is also valid.

That’s why it’s so important for you to know your Astral Map. Because in each area of ​​your life (or astrological house), there is the energy of a sign (and sometimes of a planet too) acting there, which will affect the way you act, face, see or are seen by people.
