Requirements to get married civilly in Jalisco (updated)

Getting married in Jalisco has its charm, especially in a large metropolis, like Guadalajara.

In this state of the republic, it is preferable to request services at the Civil Registry and present the documentation 15 to 30 days in advance of the selected wedding date.

Jalisco is one of the states that allows equal marriage without the need for constitutional protection, and since 2015 it is no longer allowed to register marriages between minors.

How much does it cost to get married civilly in Jalisco?

The celebration of a civil marriage varies in prices, depending on the municipalities, which in turn are governed by the official offices.

This example is for Guadalajara:

At the Civil Registry Office office from Monday to Friday $339
At the Civil Registry Office office on Saturdays $988
At home from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.: $1,258

At home from Monday to Friday after 3:00 p.m. by legal company: $1,912 and for separation of assets: $2,133

Requirements to get married civilly in Jalisco (documents, payments and more…)

1. Valid official identification document with photograph

Voting credential – original and copy Professional ID – original and copy National Military Service Card – original and copy Passport – original and copy If you are a foreigner, the official identification will be your current passport

2. Certified copies of the birth certificate of the spouses

You can process your Birth Certificate online very easily here, download and validate the document, which can be printed on a white sheet of bond paper, and will be valid before any authority.

3. Prenuptial medical certificate

It must be issued by Public Health institutions (not private hospitals) that certify the blood type for blood affinity and that the suitors do not suffer from contagious diseases such as HIV AIDS, syphilis, tuberculosis or any physical deformation, chronic and incurable or hereditary disease that constitutes some impediment to marriage.

In municipalities such as Guadalajara, women are also asked to present a copy and original of the National Women’s Health Card for comparison.

4. Marriage application

In the official office where you wish to get married, here is a directory of municipal official offices.

5. Two witnesses over 18 years of age for each spouse

The four witnesses must carry valid official identification with a photograph in the original and a copy.

6. Agreement establishing the property regime

It is the type of rules that regulate the administration of properties or assets acquired during marriage. The most common are:

7. Civil premarital course at the DIF

In several states of the republic it is a necessary requirement. The talks are free and a certificate is issued upon completion.

Remember that the validity of the certificate is 6 months.

8. Certified copy of the decree of annulment of marriage, divorce or the death certificate of the deceased spouseeither

This is in case any of the parties have been married before.

9. When a spouse is a foreigner

When one of the spouses is a foreigner, they must present the documents that prove their legal stay in the country (for example: FM3) and the Government permit.

10. When they have children together

If you are not married but have children together, a certified copy of the birth certificate of one of the children must be presented.

They are not current necessary requirements of the Civil Registry, the following documents may be requested:

1. Proof of address with copy

The bride and groom must present proof of address no older than three months, and may be:

Electricity service bill Telephone service account statement Gas service bill Property tax bill

2. CURP of the spouses

In original and copy.

3. Proof of non-existence of marriage

It is requested in the same Civil Registry.
