Paranormal: when something invisible touches you

Paranormal: when something invisible touches you.

One of the most frequent paranormal phenomena—or, rather, associated with the paranormal—that can occur to us is the feeling that something invisible is touching us.

This can happen at any time of the day, but most people experience it at night, sometimes even while they are sleeping, waking up really startled.

Sometimes it can be a simple touch, something casual, like a caress, and even like a breeze on your face (see: When something invisible breathes on your face); and other times contact can be much more intense, and even violent (see: Paranormal seduction: encounters with ghosts and spirits).

Today we will try to decipher this strange phenomenon, first of all, by analyzing some hypotheses within the field of parapsychology. Then we will see what neuroscience has to tell us about it.

Ghosts, spirits and entities of the lower astral.

Here it is important to make some distinctions.

First of all, ghosts are typically residual energies that can remain imprinted in a certain place, and interact repetitively with us (see: Are ghosts “recordings” imprinted in reality?). If our consciousness pays attention to them, that is, if it reacts to that energy, its intensity is likely to increase.

A typical example is continuing to talk out loud to someone who has died. Eventually that residual energy will have built up enough to touch yourself, or touch and move objects around you.

This type of interaction is repetitive, and occurs at approximately the same time, in the same place, and with the same intensity (see: Spirits and “charged environments”).

When it comes to a ghost, things usually don’t go much further, since it is simply something residual, like a footprint left in the place. There is no will behind the invisible thing that touches you, so the phenomenon will lose strength over time, unless the subject assumes a proactive attitude in relation to the event.

In other words: by ignoring the phenomenon it is more likely that it will disappear. However, there are other reasons, besides ghosts, to explain that feeling that something invisible is touching you.

Each person’s link with the Astral Plane is different. And, in this particular case, the invisible touch, or phantom touch, is accompanied by other phenomena when it has some type of relationship with the astral.

The first of them is the Apparitional Experience, that is, when you feel observed – being alone, naturally – or you feel that there are “presences” in your house, and more specifically in a specific place in it.

Although these types of perceptions are absolutely subjective, in conjunction with the ghost touch they can be interesting indicators to determine what is happening.

The larvae, worms and parasites of the astral plane can interact with us, when conditions are favorable, and even take over a house little by little, generating all kinds of phenomena (see: Astral Infection: houses taken over by spirits). In fact, the physical manifestations of the astral can cause a constant state of discomfort in the people who live in the house (see: Astral parasites and “bad energies”), and one of the related phenomena is, precisely, the feeling of that something invisible touches us.

Among the particularities of the phenomenon are those who claim that something invisible touches them on the back, on the shoulders, on the face; Others describe strong shaking, often in bed, feeling it more frequently in the lower extremities, as if someone or something was pulling on their feet, and even scratches that leave marks on the skin.

As we said before, it is important to consider this phenomenon than others that may occur simultaneously in the house:

to- unusual smells (see: Entities that manifest themselves through aroma)

b- shadows that appear and disappear in the corner of your eye (see: Human figures walking through your house at night)

c- Voices, murmurs and whispers (see: Ghosts of children who laugh and cry in the house)

d- Strange Pet Behavior (See: Can Cats and Dogs See Spirits?)

The feeling of something invisible touching you is not necessarily unpleasant, especially when it is the spirit of a deceased person, someone you know.

These entities can be friendly, affectionate, and know how they can make themselves heard, and even touch you, although most often they emit some type of aroma or perfume that characterized them in life to announce their presence. Fear is absent in these types of interactions.

In fact, the degree of fear experienced by the subject—which is nothing more than the so-called sixth sense—is a good indicator of the nature of the phenomenon.

Sensation of presence.

Ghostly presences, that is, the feeling that there is someone nearby when in reality there is no one there, are as old as humanity, and there are some notable cases.

One of the most interesting is that of the British explorer Frank Smythe, who in 1933, when he was about to summit Mount Everest, felt absolutely certain that someone else was climbing with him, even though his equipment had been left behind. in one of the base camps.

Smythe himself rationally knew that it was a hallucination, but still he could not resist the impulse to divide his food rations and offer them to his invisible mountain companion.

This phenomenon, known as Feeling of Presence (FoP), is different from other bodily hallucinations, such as out-of-body experiences, in which the subject feels that they are outside their own body, even looking at it.

The sensation, ultimately, has spiritual, and even mystical, characteristics, always with the conviction that there is someone else there. Believing or not in the supernatural nature of these presences also belongs to the orbit of the subjective.

On the other hand, parapsychology risks the possibility that our perception goes beyond the five known senses. Just as a cat’s whiskers provide the animal with extra information about the environment, our body—always within this line of thought—is enveloped in an invisible energy field, called aura. In order not to enter into debatable territory, we can think of this field as a kind of personal bubble

Now, all of us have a very strong perception of our personal space, and we react when someone or something crosses it without our permission. It may be difficult for us to explain exactly where these acceptable zones begin and end, whether the external approach is pleasant or scary, but our brain knows, especially when interpersonal discomfort is generated.

In this context, paranormal interactions also respond to the same dynamics, and their levels of intensity and unpleasantness have a correlation with the different layers of our invisible bubble.

a- Extrapersonal space: This space extends between one and two meters around us.

In paranormal terms, when a presence passes through that strip, the Apparitional Experience occurs, that is, when we feel that there is something strange, a presence, around us.

This space is constantly invaded in everyday life by other human beings, for example, on public transport. We grant that proximity with strangers, only when it is unavoidable, but we do not enjoy it.

b- Peripersonal space: It is the space that extends within reach of our arms and legs.

The circle, here, is much narrower, since it includes everything that is within reach. Paranormal phenomena that occur within this range usually produce more intense physical reactions, such as chills, headaches, fatigue, etc.

c- Percutaneous space: It is the space immediately outside our body, meaning that if something enters this field it directly touches our skin.

This area is where the sensation occurs that something invisible is touching us.

Curiously, the body’s reaction to this interaction, or intrusion, rather, is to expand or intensify the pericutaneous space, that is, to move suddenly, to wave our arms and legs, as if we wanted to get rid of an insect or something unpleasant.
