my wife is a princess

Some say that calling a woman a princess is something out of date or even pejorative. Go figure. I know you may not believe it, and you shouldn’t, but I have to confess something: I have a princess at home.

Okay, she’s not Rapunzel, but she knows how to defend her tower from invasions and, when necessary, uses her magical locks as a weapon very well. She is not Snow White either, but she speaks to the birds with a feeling of inexplicable joy.

She is not Ariel, but she is fearless. She defies the day and whenever possible brings adventure to our love. She’s not Cinderella, but she talks to herself around corners and talks to anyone who comes with an open heart. She’s not Sleeping Beauty either, but she dreams so much that sometimes she doesn’t even sleep.

When she wakes up it feels like the day is done. The clouds play at flight and the sun proves to be irresistible. She, unlike me, barely ruffles the sheet when sleeping.

Against that laughing mouth, I kiss it like someone biting. And I bite like a kisser. And by the luck of fate, when his lips touch mine, I let myself disappear. I juice the world and create a parallel universe of our own. A few minutes of silence where we exchange secrets in the form of kisses.

It’s been a while since I remembered how nice it was to love with my eyes closed.

We travel whenever possible. Whether in dreams or in the pampering cities we already know. She loves pictures. And I love taking pictures of her. We run through the garden, barefoot, get dirty and surrender to the moment without fear of the future.

Because, despite being my princess, she has no frills. Let’s say she knows very well when to be beautiful and when to be happy.

The truth is that when we fall in love with a woman, we forget to look around. We want that woman and, without blinking an eye, every day exchange our heart for a sparkle in our eyes. Whether she is my princess, my girl, or my wife, semantics don’t matter to me, as long as she remains my piece of joy.

So, full of love, I thank you every morning for having a princess by my side. Not for your beauty or grace when you wake up, but for the joy of living next to a man as indistinct as I am.
