Manicurist creates business card by hand and his work goes viral on the internet

While many people complain that life is difficult, others make it happen. This was the case of 43-year-old day laborer and manicurist from Rio de Janeiro Fabiana Maria dos Santos. She needed to win over clients and, instead of having expensive cards made at a printing company, she wrote a series of cards herself on notebook paper, which were delivered one by one to the doors in the neighborhood where she lives. An attitude of someone who doesn’t wait for an opportunity… knocking on the door.

Fabiana, who lives in the Padre Miguel neighborhood (the same as the samba school), is the mother of eight children and grandmother of six grandchildren. As we said, she decided to handwrite the advertisement for her work and leave it in the neighborhood where she lives.

Despite the fact that the card was made on a simple piece of notebook paper and with few words (and, let’s face it, with a small mistake in Portuguese, since the correct word would be ‘pedicure’ or ‘pedicure’), Fabiana became known throughout Brazil for its modest attitude, but worthy of someone who strives to earn a living.

The manicurist came up with the idea because she needed work and because she didn’t have the money to pay for the printer’s cards. Fabiana then decided to prepare, with the help of her young daughters, the handmade cards.

On her social networks, she shows some of the work she does and also offers to work cleaning: “I’m a manicurist and pedicure, but if I have to clean, I’ll do it too. I do a little bit of everything to support my children and I am not ashamed of it”, says Fabiana.

Fabiana started with five nail polishes and old pliers. But with the help of friends she got on social media, she has already gained some basic products to serve her customers a little more adequately.

One of her posts went viral and mobilized Internet users, who set up a group on the Whatsapp messaging application (invitation link) to help the manicurist. In the group, an anonymous person made the art of a personalized business card for her and other people have helped in what they can.

Fabiana said that she was very moved by the help of Internet friends, who joined in solidarity with a professional who just needed an opportunity to work with dignity.
