Little remarkable: 5-year-old boy writes letters to children around the world

toby little is only 5 years old, lives in Sheffield in England and loves to write. After reading the book “A Letter to New Zealand”, which describes the journey of a piece of mail to reach its final destination, he decided that he should use this “ancient” form of communication to help children living in other countries.

His initial idea was to handwrite letters to at least one person from each of the 193 UN countries and thus get a response from them. The task began in May of this year and Toby has already written 314 different letters and received responses from 112 countries. Success!

In each letter, he asks the recipient about local curiosities and customs. His mother, Sabine Little, was so surprised by the little one’s excitement that she decided to help him. She created, then, the website called Writing to the world (Writing to the world), in which she publishes the letters and categorizes them by continent and country that they were sent. In addition, through a crowdfunding site, Just Giving, the project is raising money to help the ShelterBox institution, which sends special boxes containing survival tools to families living in precarious situations.

He still has plans for the future: Toby believes that the site and the letters can serve as an example for others: “I wish the world is a better place”, he wrote in his profile on the site.
