Wedding: 10 ways to serve almonds as a souvenir

the custom of delivering almonds to guests has remained firm among Brazilian couples for many years. What few know, however, is that the tradition has Italian origins.

According to legend, almonds symbolize the wishes of guests to the newlyweds. Usually, five candied almonds are given to each guest, representing: Happiness, Fertility, Longevity, Wealth and Health.

It is also common to insert two colored almonds between the white ones, alluding to the couple surrounded by all the wishes of happiness. In Brazil, the custom began to gain strength in the 1930s.

Also common in Greek ceremonies, the so-called “koufeta” symbolize good luck to the guests. In Greek tradition, if a guest puts the bundle of almonds under her pillow, she will dream of the man she is going to marry.

Couples also usually hand them in odd numbers to guests, representing the indivisible bond of marriage.
