Learn how to make 11 natural mixtures to clean the house

Many cleaning products have harmful substances, capable of causing intoxication and allergic reactions when inhaled. In addition, they weigh on the budget. “But there are some ‘hidden’ cleaning agents in the pantry at home that, in addition to not containing toxic components, are cheap and work well”, says personal organizer Ingrid Lisboa, from São Paulo. We are talking about baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and white wine vinegar, which can be used in various ways for cleaning. See the directions:

room freshener

Mix 1 liter of water, 1/2 cup (American) vinegar, 1 tablespoon (soup) of bicarbonate, 1/4 cup (American) alcohol and 1 tablespoon (soup) of fabric softener. Put it in the sprayer. Apply to cushions and curtains.

degreaser

In a large bucket, mix 3 or 4 cups (tea) of white vinegar with 1 of bicarbonate. The solution does away with the grease on the walls.

Toilet bowl disinfectant

Pour 1/2 cup (tea) of white vinegar into the vase. Then add 1/2 cup (tea) of bicarbonate. This mixture forms bubbles and foam. Leave for a minute, scrub and flush.

mold remover

Mix equal parts baking soda and white vinegar or 10 volume hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. Apply to the moldy surface, leave for 30 minutes, scrub with a brush and remove excess with a damp cloth.

aluminum wiper

Prepare a paste with 1 cup (tea) of sodium bicarbonate and the same measure of hydrogen peroxide 10 volumes. Spread it all over the utensil, let it act for a few minutes and rub with a steel sponge or a ball of aluminum foil. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.

To remove tough stains and grime, mix equal parts baking soda, salt, and white vinegar. Apply the paste over the stain with a brush, let it dry and brush again. Get it all out!

Mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part water in a spray bottle and apply to the glass. Wipe with a soft cloth and dry with newspaper.

To clean tile grout, make a mixture of equal parts baking soda and 10 volume hydrogen peroxide and brush the surface (use a toothbrush to make it easier to remove dirt).

In order not to let the sink clog, use, from time to time, a mixture of 250 ml of white vinegar with 500 ml of water and 1/2 cup (tea) of sodium bicarbonate. The solution eliminates grease and food residues present in the pipes.

Mix equal parts of 10 volumes of hydrogen peroxide and white wine vinegar with a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Place in a spray bottle and apply to kitchen counters, bathroom sinks and other surfaces. This solution eliminates bacteria and perfumes the environment well.

Stain remover

Mix equal parts of 10 volume hydrogen peroxide and mild detergent. With a sponge, rub over the stain. Let it act for a minute and then soak the fabric with the mixture again (the equivalent of 1 coin). Let it soak in and then wash as usual. The solution removes wine, blood, and sweat stains.

It is also a good substitute for whiteners and does not cause harmful effects to health or the environment”, guarantees Vladimir Constantino Valério, professor of textile chemistry at Senai-SP. Composed of more than 90% water, when mixed with alcohol, vinegar or sodium bicarbonate, hydrogen peroxide cleans and disinfects, without offering risk of intoxication to those who use it, as it does not release toxic gases. “To clean the house, use only a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 97% water, the famous 10-volume hydrogen peroxide”, warns the specialist. He also states: “Various cleaning products have hydrogen peroxide in their composition, but on packaging the term used for the substance is active oxygen”.
