Landart: discover the landscaping technique in the fields

Land art, known as earth art or earthwork, emerged in the United States in the 60s, with the intention of taking artistic creations beyond the limits of museums and galleries, bringing them closer to people. Inspired by land art, the Tunisian artist Jean Paul Ganem creates beautiful landscapes, showing that it is possible to combine aesthetic delicacy, environmental awareness and social engagement.

Environmental complaint
On the facades of buildings like this one in Montreal, the artist draws attention to the lack of green areas in cities (left). The mustard plantation (right) evidences the deforestation of the forest headed by several generations of farmers.

Unusual images like this barcode arouse the observer’s curiosity. “Art can be the vector of many things. Aesthetics, the environmental issue and also the training of young people”, says the plastic artist.

More color, more life
Convinced to work with three types of wheat, the owner of this farm won a checkered field. According to Jeal Paul, rural workers not only produce food – they also produce images. “I want them to understand the aesthetic dimension of their work,” he says.
