WHY DOES THE SKIN LOSE FIRMNESS?

“The loss of skin firmness causes the dreaded sagging”, explains the Dr. Patricia Mafra, dermatologist and full member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. “Skin sagging is a natural aging process, and it occurs mainly due to the decrease in the production of collagen types I and III.”

Fact is: this process is irreversible. However, it can be delayed with some precautions, mainly regarding to good habits. Dermatological procedures also prevent and treat early and/or severe collagen loss.

“Extrinsic aging can be delayed with good lifestyle habits and using sunscreen, since solar radiation is the main responsible for the production of free radicals in the skin”, says the dermatologist doctor Daniel Cassiano. “As for collagen stimulation, we can make use of biostimulators and microfocused ultrasound that stimulate collagen production.”
