“Take a rest; “A field that has rested yields a generous harvest.”

-Ovid

However, learning to clear our mind often causes us difficulties, especially at the beginning of our practice, or even when we are too stressed. In this article we tell you how to solve it.

The mind has no “on/off”

The problem is that The mind is not like a device that can be disconnected or turned off. (Fortunately). The process is a little more complicated than simply removing the power plug or pressing a button. So how can I make my mind totally blank?

Actually, The question we should ask ourselves is: do I need to clear my mind to meditate? The teachers will surely tell you yes, however, it seems that it is not a “sine qua non” condition to achieve the long-awaited “enlightenment”…

Because? Because It’s a little complicated to make thoughts disappear like magic.taking into account that we cannot turn off our mind whenever we want…

Maybe you just need to close your eyes and pay attention to what’s happening with your body, such as air entering your lungs. Or how your spine starts crying out for a posture that it thinks is better (because it’s used to hunching over all day). How about taking advantage of that moment to listen to relaxing music, birdsong or the sea breeze?

Ideas will appear without asking for it… and they will leave the same way. The harder we try to prevent them from arriving, the more intensely they will say present. Therefore, you don’t have to fight them, but rather make friends and wait for them to follow their own path.

It’s not blowing and blanking your mind

Many of us (myself included) want our minds to go completely blank when we meditate. But let me tell you, that’s not exactly what you should be aiming for. You must achieve serenity and, above all, the ability to realize what is happening.

On the other hand, if your mind wanders to some thought instead of feeling sad because you didn’t achieve “brain purity,” you should be happy! If any thoughts appear, it means that you are alert to your surroundings. or that there are things that are on your mind and you need to solve or work on them.

“Be patient. Wait until the mud settles and the water is clear. Remain motionless until the right action arises of itself.”

-Lao Tzu

Meditating helps us have mental clarity

We must start thinking that Meditation is not an effort or a struggle, but rather it is about self-observation, to achieve peace in the way that seems best to us. Is it possible for there to be calm among the coming and going of thoughts? Maybe so… it all depends on you.

Try this new way of meditating and then analyze if it has been beneficial. Surely it will have positive aspects and others that are not so positive… but with certainty, Meditation will help you calm down a little and even give “another spin” to some problems or things that didn’t let you sleep.

Furthermore, between each of those thoughts that will appear in your mind there will be “blank” spaces, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter… But white nonetheless! Those moments of mental clarity or saving silence will be what will make you enjoy your experience.

And in turn, With practice you will make these moments more frequent and longer.. The point is not to look for that to happen, but to let it be a consequence of your constant meditation. Simply dedicate yourself to enjoying the trip, journey or path. It will be a beautiful path that you will travel and it is worth waiting as long as it takes to reach the goal.

The advantages of meditating are not only present when you sit with your legs crossed and your eyes closed… nor when you spend the day doing “om” or listening to mantras. Meditating can nourish you at any time of the day, even when you are working, traveling on the subway or preparing dinner.

Each of your actions can be a meditation. Because you don’t have to blank your mind to do it right!
