There are those who say that there is nothing more fun than spending an entire afternoon in front of the television watching action or comedy movies. In addition to a lot of laughs, these movies are great because they keep our energy level high. Many of them become unforgettable for their excellent pairs of protagonists, and watching these classics again usually gives a feeling that time is not passing. But of course that’s not true, after all the years pass for all of us, and the big movie stars are no exception.
Thinking about it, the awesome.club made a “then” and “now” list of some of the most famous duos in comedy and action films.
1. Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler in Bulletproof
Adam Sandler had the idea to make an action movie with Damon Wayans after seeing his colleague’s work on Saturday Night Live in 1994. A year or so later he sent the script to Damon and the film opened in 1996.
2. Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone in Tango & Cash
Did you know that the glasses Stallone wore in Tango & Cash were his? Yes, they were not part of the scenographic objects. Few people know, but the actor has astigmatism and usually wears contact lenses during recording. Stallone and Russell teamed up again in 2017 on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but unfortunately, the stars didn’t do any scenes together.
3. Sofía Vergara and Reese Witherspoon in Beautiful and the Persecuted
In the film, the two protagonists are unfairly investigated and wanted by the police. Each time their description is published in the press, the height of Rose Cooper, played by Reese, decreases exaggeratedly and the age of Daniella Riva, played by Sofía, increases.
4. Jim Belushi and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Red Hell
Before the start of recording, the production team said that Arnold Schwarzenegger was too muscular and asked him to lose 4 kg. On the other hand, they said that Jim Belushi was too thin and needed to gain 4 kg.
5. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in Law Enforcement
Channing Tatum twice turned down the role, but in 2012 he was convinced by Jonah to join the project. The film changed Jonah’s day a lot, because he needed to lose more than 18 kg to play the character. This was necessary because the duo needed to face a series of stunts that demanded good physical condition.
6. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys
The original idea was for the film to be starring actors Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes, but after some back and forth negotiations, the producers decided to choose Will and Martin. In 2020, Bad Boys Forever premiered, a film that resumes the story of the same protagonists 25 years later.
7. Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson in A Nightmare Awakening
In this 1996 blockbuster, actor Samuel L. Jackson must help a woman with amnesia discover her past. Interestingly, in Captain Marvel, a 2019 film, Samuel (who plays Nick Fury) also needs to help the protagonist remember her past.
8. Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in The Other Guys
In addition to Os Outro Caras, Mark and Will also starred in Pai em Dose Dupla, in 2015, and Pai em Dose Dupla 2, in 2017. In both, Mark Wahlberg again plays the “good looking” while Will Ferrell plays the polite and even even the scared executive everyone loves to make fun of.
9. Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours
48 hours marked the film debut of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy, in 1982. The most curious thing about the film is that Nick Nolte said that most of the dialogue between him and Eddie was completely improvised.
10. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in The Well-Armed
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy had already expressed interest in making a film together even before receiving the script for As Bem-Armadas, which had its premiere in 2013. However, Sandra Bullock guaranteed in an interview that she will not make a sequel, but said that does not rule out the possibility of making another film alongside Melissa.
11. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in Starsky & Hutch: Double Justice
Ben Stiller had to take a special driving course to perform stunts and although he did well on the test, he wasn’t able to do all the driving tricks we see in the movie. The two actors have already made more than one film together, including Down the Road, The Royal Tenenbaums, Zoolander, Night at the Museum, among others.
12. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour
Shortly after meeting Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan told his agent that his colleague was talking too fast: “I don’t understand a word that comes out of his mouth.” Interestingly, this is what he tells the character when he meets him in the story.
13. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith
It is said that Brad Pitt decided to leave the project when actress Nicole Kidman made it official that she would no longer participate. For some time, the production team was without a replacement, but as soon as Angelina Jolie was confirmed in the role, the actor decided to return to the project.
