He saved a wolf pup and raised him at home (and now the animal lives like a regular domestic dog)

There’s no denying it: we all have some degree of prejudice. And prejudice unfortunately often manifests itself in different ways, whether by religion, gender, origin and even the type of friendships of a person. However, and fortunately, there are episodes that help to decrease this type of behavior. An example of this is the story of a Russian who keeps a wolf as a pet. And the way he lives is proof enough that these animals aren’t as dangerous as many people think.

O awesome.club he did an exclusive interview with Ivan (that’s his name) and now he wants to tell you all about the relationship between this human being and his wolf.

Meet Ivan and Seryi

On May 8, 2017, in the Astrakhan region of Russia, farmers found some wolf pups and, because of the belief that these animals are dangerous, they intended to get rid of them all. Fortunately, Ivan, a 46-year-old therapist who works with the elderly and disabled, came along and bought one of these puppies from the farmers when the animal was between 3 or 4 weeks old and named it Seryi (“gray” in Russian).

Received help from daughter

For a while they remained in Astrakhan, but now they live in Volgograd. His daughter, Alexandra, is 19 years old and is a dog trainer. And, of course, she helps her father take care of Seryi. The young woman studied at Agrarian University and Volgograd State University.

Having a wolf as a pet is a complex task.

Seryi is almost like any other dog

Although people think wolves are wild animals, Ivan assures them that his pet is just like any other dog — both the dog and the wolf are from the canid family. He is often scared, afraid of crossing wide streets and of unfamiliar objects, such as boxes or other items, especially large ones, where a person can hide.

Ivan doesn’t let strangers take pictures with Seryi, because they scare him and also because the animal is not a show animal, but a member of the family. The animal walks through the streets with only the collar, but without a muzzle.

Wolves are friendly animals

Before Seryi’s arrival, Ivan already had dogs at home. To the wolf, they are the oldest members of his “pack”. Like any other dog, Seryi bites, but only when he is stressed or bored. When everyone is taken for a walk, the wolf gets along well with dogs of his height or similar, but ignores smaller ones.

Seryi knows that Ivan is the head of the group.

Despite Seryi being a bit of a picky pet, she knows that Ivan is the boss, unlike her daughter. He does not allow her to give him medicine or carry him.

Food

The animal is fed meat or chicken. He eats about 1.2 kg of protein a day, but he can also eat vegetables, fruits or berries. From time to time, he is also given cookies, nuts and honey to supplement his diet.

Wolves are curious, polite and intelligent animals.

Ivan shared some tips

Ivan’s first advice about adopting a wolf is: just don’t do it. They are very demanding animals, require a lot of time and energy from their owners and are not easy to care for. But if for some reason you end up with a wolf in the house, spend a lot of time with him to build a good relationship: feed him, sleep with him, walk for long hours, and try to keep him indoors to avoid problems with the wolf. other people (but make sure you have plenty of room to move around).

What do you think of the relationship between Ivan, his daughter, his dogs and Seryi? Would you dare to have a wolf as a pet? Tell us in the comments.
