Crazy? Nike’s emotional campaign about women in sport

Nike launched a campaign on Feb. 24 in which it advocates for gender equality in sports. The video had repercussions on all social networks and was very successful.

The play is narrated by serena williams and has participation of Simone Biles🇧🇷 Ibtihaj Muhammad🇧🇷 Caster Semenya and other athletes. Through the slogan “It’s just crazy until you do it. Just do it”, the campaign encourages women to follow their dreams.

In the campaign, there are several examples of athletes and coaches who were pioneers in some achievement within sports. Ibtihaj Muhammad, for example, was the first American Muslim woman to wear a hijab in competition during the Olympics.

Caster Semenya, who won the gold medal in the 800m at the 2009 Athletics World Championship in Berlin, had her femininity put in check because of her excellent performance. She had to undergo gender testing and, because she had a higher testosterone level than what is believed to be “normal” for women, she was banned from competing on some occasions.

If we show emotion, we are called “dramatic”. If we want to play against men, we are “crazy”. And if we dream of equal opportunity, “delusional”. When we support some cause, we are “disoriented”. When we’re too good, there’s something wrong with us. And if we get mad, we’re “hysterical”, “irrational”, or “we’re just crazy”. But, a woman running a marathon? It was crazy. A woman boxing? It was crazy. A woman dunking? Craziness! Coach an NBA team? Craziness. A woman competing in a hijab, switching sports, completing a double cork 1080 (snowboard trick), or winning 23 grand slams, having a baby, and coming back for more? Madness, madness, madness, madness and madness! So if they want to call you crazy, that’s fine. Show them the crazy things you can do🇧🇷
