For Luana Costa, who runs Ateliê ChocoGula Buffet & Decor, the return of themes from the 80s and 90s has a very clear reason: the desire of parents to celebrate their children’s childhood by remembering their own past. Old characters such as Sonic, Super Mario, Hello Kitty and the most classic Disney cartoons, for example, have everything!

When it comes to birthday parties, this touch of the past, however, usually happens at a specific stage of the little ones’ childhood. “I have noticed that parents usually choose this type of theme at parties for children up to two years old, when the birthday children still don’t have a character they like and have become attached to. The ideal thing is for parents to take advantage of this phase to choose the themes, because afterwards it gets very difficult”, he joked.

However, rescuing classic themes does not mean recreating a party along the lines of the 80s and 90s. It has changed a lot. Today we adopt a cleaner style, with full tables, but focused on the richness of details. Less is more,” said the expert.

Stationery appears as a powerful ally in the composition of retro-themed tables. Characters can gain stylized versions, new colors and shapes. “What really makes a difference in a table is the originality you bring to it. I usually ask parents to have a piece of the child to put in the decoration. It can be a doll, a plush or even a comic. It is these details that make the setting unique, as no one will have a table like that. It is important to bring to each production a unique touch that represents the family, ”he said.

Since 2014, when it was founded, the company has been renewing itself to serve an increasingly demanding public and, therefore, periodically undergoes creative reformulations to keep up with market trends. Luana points out that commercial themes, such as princesses and other fashionable characters, are still on the rise thanks to their success among little ones. However, the decorator emphasizes the importance of extracting a more affective identity from each theme. “Each party should be unique”, points out Luana.
