You’ve probably heard about blackberry, but do you know all the benefits this fruit can offer your health?!
There are different types of blackberries: red, white and black. They are small in size, ranging from 1 to 3 centimeters, depending on the species.
Liliane Oppermann, a nutrition specialist, with the title of Specialist by Abran (Brazilian Association of Nutrology) and former Director of the Brazilian Medical Association of Orthomolecular (Ambo), explains the nutritional properties of blackberry:
Fruit: it is rich in vitamins and minerals, source of iron, vitamin C and calcium. It also contains anthocyanins, antioxidants capable of reversing the damage caused to the cell by free radicals.
Leaves: they are used to make blackberry tea, which is currently very successful due to the many benefits it can offer to health. The leaf contains the highest concentration of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and calcium, as well as antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamin C and E.

Liliane Oppermann explains that blackberry tea began to be studied in Japan. “Its effectiveness was first tested and approved by the Ministry of Health in Japan, and was later publicized by the Japanese TV channel NHK”, she says.
The nutritionist doctor explains that, after such studies with blackberry tea (Amora Miura), it can be concluded that it has powerful effects. Among them, the following stand out:
It has a vitalizing effect: as it is very rich in magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, it increases resistance and gives energy, in addition to increasing immunity.
Fight diabetes: tea helps fight diabetes as it has DNJ, which inhibits the rate of glucose with the natural release of insulin.
Improves the functioning of the kidneys and liver: it helps to improve the functioning of the liver and kidneys, inhibiting the accumulation of fat and cholesterol in these organs.
Fight against osteoporosis: it can be an important ally in the fight against osteoporosis because it has 22 times more calcium than milk, in addition to containing more potassium, magnesium and natural iron, protein, fiber, zinc and yeast.
Improves circulation: by improving levels of cholesterol and neutral fats in the blood, tea improves blood circulation.
Prevents hypertension: as it contains y-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a hypotensive agent, it has a normalizing effect and inhibits blood pressure.
Decreases menopausal symptoms: regulates hormones effectively acting on menopausal symptoms.
Helps to inhibit the emergence of cancer: according to studies, mulberry leaves have properties that can inhibit the emergence of cancer.
Regulates intestinal transit: because it has a significant amount of fiber, blackberry tea facilitates intestinal transit and helps to improve constipation. It also reduces harmful bacteria without affecting the beneficial ones – which keeps the intestinal flora in good condition.
Prevents the proliferation of fungi: blackberry tea can also inhibit the proliferation of fungi, in addition, it has bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects.
Helps fight baldness: by revitalizing circulation in the scalp and progressively inhibiting hair loss, blackberry tea can be a good ally in the fight against baldness.
Blackberry tea slimming?
This is one of the main doubts on the subject. Liliane Opperman explains that blackberry tea can indeed help with weight loss.
“This happens due to the presence of fibers and yeasts, which facilitate digestion and improve the functioning of the intestine, in addition to inhibiting the accumulation of fat in the body, especially the accumulation of fat in the viscera, thus preventing obesity”, highlights the nutritionist doctor. .
However, Liliane Opperman remembers that tea only serves as an ally. “Nutritional monitoring is important so that the menu is balanced and complete, according to the needs of each person”, she highlights.
Also according to the nutritionist, weight loss varies from person to person, but the average is 1.5 kg per week, having a balanced diet and a daily practice of physical exercises (allied with the consumption of blackberry tea).
How to make blackberry tea?
According to Liliane Opperman, the medicinal properties of blackberry leaf tea are potentiated in the infusion. The recipe is simple:
- In an iron pot, put 1 liter of water;
- Turn off the heat as soon as it starts to boil;
- Put the water in a container and add a tablespoon of dried mulberry leaves;
- When warm, strain and drink without sweetening.
The nutritionist points out that tea can be kept in the fridge or in a thermos for no more than 24 hours.
How should blackberry tea be consumed?
Liliane Opperman gives some tips regarding the consumption of blackberry tea:
- It is advisable to prepare and consume the tea on the same day.
- The prepared liter of blackberry tea can be consumed cold or hot, 3 times a day, between the main meals.
- You can start drinking blackberry tea in the morning, but you don’t necessarily have to drink it on an empty stomach.
Contraindications of blackberry tea
According to Liliane Opperman, there are no known contraindications to blackberry tea. “However, its consumption in pregnant and lactating women should be evaluated beforehand by a professional nutritionist”, she highlights.
Other teas that can help those who want to lose weight
It’s not just blackberry tea that has been successful among people who want to lose a few pounds. Liliane Opperman highlights that green tea is highly recommended for weight loss diets. “In addition to it, hibiscus and rosemary teas are good indications for reducing measurements”, she says.
