Astrology and the Lucifer series: the characters’ signs |

The Lucifer series premiered on Netflix in 2016 and counts, until the publication of this article in early 2021, with 5 seasons, the last one still incomplete, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is one of the most successful series on the platform, with a curious and thought-provoking theme as its motto: the devil.

Tired of the monotonous routine of Hell, the devil decides to move to Los Angeles, where he opens a luxurious, voluptuous and lively piano bar. And, for one of those things that only the mysteries of life explain, he crosses his destiny with that of a beautiful and serious detective, taking an interest in helping her with her cases.

Far from being dark, a battle of good against evil, as one might imagine, the series is mocking and fun, and even makes some astrological signs, the subject of this article, stand out.

Explaining the Lucifer of the series

The first thing to explain is that the devil that gives its name to the series is not the same as most people know. He does not incite evil and does not influence people’s minds, therefore he is not the opposing force of good and the promoter of evil.

In the series, he is just a rebellious angel, son of the creator, who, because of his erratic behavior, ends up being designated by his father to take care of Hell and its entire structure of punishments. Lucifer is thus a kind of manager of Hell, fulfilling a specific function.

Lucifer from the Netflix series, of course, has powers: he is immortal, abnormally strong and has a special seduction technique of almost hypnotizing people and discovering their darkest desires. In addition, he is a true hedonist: he loves to have pleasures, a life of luxury and to have fun. This is what makes him want to leave Hell, where he has served for millennia, to settle in Los Angeles, one of the most conducive places in the world for pleasure.

Lucifer series premiered with the Moon in Leo

The first episode aired on 01/25/2016. On this day, the Moon was in Leo, the sign of entertainment and leisure, which is exactly what the series proposes: fun.

In addition, the Moon in Leo accounts for its flashy and self-confident protagonist, played by the handsome British actor Tom Ellis: the devil himself.

Synchronously, Tom Ellis with Jupiter in Leo aspecting Venus in Scorpio. In her childhood and adolescence, she had a solid musical education from her mother, a music teacher (Jupiter in Leo), which could be a representation of this feminine (Venus) involved with the stage (Leo). The actor’s father, in turn, was a minister of a Baptist religion, which is another way of being on stage.

The fact that he became better known as an actor playing a highly symbolic and controversial character also has to do with Venus in Scorpio in his chart. Ellis was not noted for being a hero, but for a character who is not a villain, but is far from being a good guy, which well represents this Venus who is not pleased with the obvious and is in harmony with a seductive character.

In the series, Lucifer plays the piano and sings beautifully, using all the background of the British actor linked to this artistic and performative Jupiter in Leo. It should be noted that these talents were discovered during filming, and not before, and reverberated in the creation of an incredibly performing devil.

Tom Ellis: Scorpio actor and an anarchic devil

The protagonist who gives life to Lucifer is a Scorpio with the Sun set to Uranus (in your birth chart it is also possible to see the aspects that the planets made when you were born). Translation: an intense and sexy representative of this sign with wingspan playing an exotic, rebellious and totally anarchic character (Uranus).

The Sun’s conjunction with Uranus made the role of Lucifer fit like a glove for the actor, as it is a role beyond all imagined standards, something Uranian.

Mars was in Scorpio (the actor’s sign) on the day of the series premiere, referring to this intense male character with a strong sexual appeal, something Scorpio.

The Lucifer of the series does not want to corrupt minds and hearts, but rather to have fun and have pleasure, which, in turn, alludes to the Moon in Leo and Mars in Scorpio, which characterize the chart of the series, and, notably, also the actor’s chart, also with a Leo/Scorpio binomial.

An important point is that when an actor plays a character that reverberates his map, if he is a strong character, this can catapult his career, as happened with Tom Ellis, who was only really noticed after this series, which debuted when he was 37 years old.

In the opening chart, the Sun was in the unconventional Aquarius, showing that a character was born to “be an Aquarius and break all the rules”, and this is what Lucifer does almost all the time. And the main rule was what was expected of a series with the name “Lucifer”.

The Sun in Aquarius in the series makes, in turn, a parallel with the actor’s chart, which has the Sun together with Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius. As you can see, Astrology proves that nothing in the Universe is random and has countless connections.

Lucifer characters sign

As it is one of those fun and delightful series to watch, I started thinking about the characters’ signs. It has to be understood that, after five seasons, the characters evolve, as we do in life, but the essence of the signs prevails. Let’s start with Lucifer himself.

The Devil is a Gemini

If Ellis is an intense Scorpio, his character is not: the title character’s Sun is in a sign that quincunx, an aspect that expresses antithesis, with Scorpio: Gemini. That is, Lucifer would be Gemini. And why do I risk this guess?

It starts out that Lucifer is bisexual. Oops, are Geminis bisexual? No, Geminis are duals, bisexuality being a dual trait. Duality is a hallmark of this sign which, of course, can be expressed in many ways. Lucifer, very markedly in the first seasons, has a mixture of being intensely masculine in some moments, especially when he imposes and defends himself, behaviors, in others, apparently delicate, in which one asks: but would this character be gay (considering, it is of course, that there are very masculine gays)? It’s a kind of duality.

What else does Lucifer have from Gemini? He is extremely curious, traits that help him blend in among humans. Newcomer to the terrestrial universe, he finds humans amazing in their contradictions and is always trying to learn something about them. And, in this continuous learning, he often imitates someone as a form of assimilation. And imitating is something that Gemini does very well.

Another characteristic of this sign is that it belongs to the element of Air. Air easily accesses the rational plane, of ideas, but does not access the emotional plane so well, the domain of Water, the opposite element to Air. And Lucifer’s difficulty with the emotional plane is notorious.

He even starts therapy with one of the characters to understand the mysterious world of feelings, something he was very distant from when he was the manager of Hell. But, little by little, he will learn. However, without the help of Linda, his human therapist, it is quite possible that this process would have taken much longer.

Linda makes Lucifer develop attributes of the two signs that form a quincunx (150 degree angle) with Gemini, Scorpio and Capricorn, that is, depth and maturity gradually. Pretty gradual, by the way.

Lucifer’s lack of depth and maturity make for great moments of fun in the series. But, over several seasons, he evolves, leaving behind the superficiality that is sometimes also attributed to Gemini (understand that here we are talking about the archetype, and not about all individuals of this sign).

Lucifer geminisly asks unusual questions, is curious, and also has a quick and sharp tongue. All characteristics of the third sign of the Zodiac.

And a last point that guarantees that the devil is a Gemini is the very duality of being a devil on Earth, that is, of transiting between two worlds, Hell and Earth. Lucifer is a man in the physical realm, but an immortal. He even has a human face and a devil’s face. Two-faced. This is all very Gemini.

And, later on (here comes a spoiler), it will be revealed that Lucifer has a twin brother. So, does anyone still have doubts about the protagonist’s sun sign?

An interesting detail: Tom Ellis was born on the day of the turn of the Moon in Gemini for Cancer. Since we don’t know the time of birth, we can assume that maybe his Moon is in Gemini.

detective chloe

Lucifer spends a lot of time calling Chloe by her profession: “detective”, in English. To the astrologer’s surprise, who shouldn’t even be surprised by these things anymore, Chloe is also in the debut chart. Venus, the planet of the feminine, is nothing more, nothing less, than in Capricorn, which represents everything a detective is: serious, committed and responsible.

The fact of being identified by a profession and being called by the name that designates it is also something Capricorn. While Lucifer is playful, and often irresponsible, Chloe is mature. But it’s clear from the start that the devil boy (Gemini, the eternal teenager) and good vivant will be interested in the beautiful but serious detective, divorcée and mother, whom he gladly and playfully helps, without, of course, stop getting in the way every now and then.

The contrast between the two is a reason for fun in the series. For Lucifer, the “detective cases” are pure entertainment, challenging his inventive brain to work.

In real life, a curiosity: the actress who plays the character was born just 12 days after Tom Ellis and is an exuberant Sagittarius playing a focused Capricorn. It is said, behind the scenes, that it is common for her to burst out laughing, and make everyone laugh, and then return to the concentrated way of her character, who is always having to get Lucifer’s attention.

At the beginning of the series, and for a long time, the lives of the two characters are very different: Lucifer with his fun, varied and extensive sex life and the beautiful Chloe totally committed to her career and raising her daughter, and without much time for the rest. .

Ella, the investigative expert

Ella is a fun investigative expert of Latin American origin, quite competent and insightful as a professional. As a person, however, she is very affectionate and talkative. In the series, it is shown how her affectionate style disconcerts and delights the characters, who, after all, are Americans, and not used to the ease in creating intimacy of Latino descendants.

Ella seems to be a mix of Sun in Cancer, warm, family-oriented, with Gemini Rising, her nonstop talkative, youthful, adolescent, and lively side, having come from a large family of countless siblings and cousins, which which is a Gemini thing too (this sign rules relatives), not all of them following lawful paths (this ambiguity may belong to Gemini in the archetype as well).

The rough and sweet Maze

Mazikeen, or Maize, is a demon that Lucifer brings with him and who defends him. She is a beautiful and lethal woman and the series begins closed and unsympathetic. But little by little her sincere way conquers characters and spectators.

Maze is a…
