After all, physical exercise rejuvenates or ages the skin? – GOOD SHAPE

Exercise does not age the skin. It rejuvenates, makes practitioners live longer and better. But there are some explanations for these cases in which people notice an older appearance.

1

Overtraining: Physical exercise generates free radicals, which stimulates our body to produce antioxidant defense. But when physical exercise is strenuous, this excess of free radicals damages various molecules, including collagen and elastin, increasing sagging and worsening the quality of our skin. To guarantee a balance, it is necessary to gradually increase the exercise load, guaranteeing the proper functioning of the mitochondria, increasing their number in an orderly manner and allowing our organism to adapt to this greater expenditure of energy. Rest is also key, remember that. Diet is also important with many vitamins and minerals that make up our antioxidant defense.

Inefficient calorie intake: Some people notice accentuated flaccidity and the explanation is fat loss. If glucose is transformed into ATP, we must have a supply of glucose, which can be from the diet in the form of carbohydrates or the body burns something to transform it into glucose. Our organism burns fat, but it is a slow process, it can also burn protein, which is a little faster than fat. Strenuous and long-lasting aerobic exercises can even lead to loss of lean mass. As the goal is to keep the body moving, we may have exaggerated fat consumption; on the face we have fat compartments that can be consumed easily. Decreasing the volume of the face, we have more skin left and the feeling of sagging and aging. Therefore, an adequate caloric intake during exercise is essential to avoid cases like this, according to the plastic surgeon.

Insufficient protein intake: In addition to burning fat, there is protein consumption, not only to turn fuel but also to build muscle. Sedentary patients have a protein requirement of about 1.0 g of protein per kg of weight per day, athletes can reach 2.5 g of protein per kg of weight per day. Without this contribution, there is no increase in muscle mass and the body will withdraw from other less important places, such as the skin, for example. Who needs collagen if you have to keep your body moving? Therefore, adequate protein consumption is essential.

4

Overexposure to the sun: Exposure to the sun without sunscreen causes the so-called skin photoaging. The sun’s ultraviolet rays cause blemishes and act directly to increase the production of free radicals in the skin, as a result of which we have altered collagen and elastin fibers. Use sunscreen.

5

Insufficient hydration: During physical exercise, heat is produced as a side effect of ATP burning, and to regulate body temperature, sweat is eliminated. Water loss is great during very intense exercise and can be worsened by high ambient temperatures and low air humidity. The lack of water causes the organism to choose where to leave the little water available, the blood has an extremely efficient concentration control, it takes water from wherever possible. Obviously the skin is at the bottom of the list and over time we can experience drier skin with more apparent wrinkles. Be sure to drink the ideal amount of water each day to keep your body – and your skin – hydrated.
