Abaddon: the exterminating angel.

The name of Abaddon, one of the most feared demons in history, dispenses with interpretations and conjectures about his personality. It means “ruin”, and perhaps “perdition”.

The book of Job associates Abaddon with a certain indefinable nostalgia related to wisdom, as if knowledge brought with it a suffering and sorrow that are tributary to it.

Abaddon was also related to an overwhelming languor of spirit, but also to the highest degree of desolation.

The catechumens and Gnostics baptized Abaddon with the best known of his numerous epithets: The exterminating angelwhich has accompanied him since then in practically any forbidden book or grimoire where it is mentioned.

In this context, Abaddon is the demon who commands the armies of plagues that occur after the apocalypse.

When The Book of Revelations darkly recounts the breaking of the Seventh Seal, poor Saint John identifies Abaddon with the plagues and proclaims him king of the locusts, a very significant plague in Hebrew mythology.

Due to his withdrawn, taciturn character, it is still unknown today why the melancholic Abadón ended up embodying the most gloomy and unfathomable vision of the abysses.

Now, not everything is disastrous in the biography of Abaddon. In fact, one of his interventions has been carefully omitted by the Church, always concerned about the advances in linguistics.

Apparently, the root of the word Abaddón comes from the Aramaic abbaddón, which literally means “father.” If we take the Greek Orthodox Church as a reference, this is the same name with which Jesus used to mention God.
