9 Baby Products That Experienced Parents Don’t Recommend Buying

Every parent of young children hopes that the products used by their children (for example, bottles, pacifiers and car seats) are safe, as the manufacturers promise. But many times the authorities end up contradicting these “beliefs”. In the United States, for example, in 2019 alone, more than 5 million children’s products were withdrawn from the market in actions of recall🇧🇷

We, from awesome.club, we study which products should be avoided to ensure the safety of your children.

1. Protective pads

Parents often use protective pads so that the baby does not hit his head on the crib slats. But this beautiful accessory can become a nightmare for children. Experts warn that shock absorbers are dangerous and increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Even “breathable pads” can suffocate a child. The suggestion is to keep all these items, which may cover the baby’s face, away from the crib.

2. Baby carrier (kangaroo holder) with narrow base

This product is great in that it helps bond with the baby. But, in most products of this type, the position in which the child is placed is not the most favorable. By keeping the legs straight and the knees and hips straight, there is a lot of strain on the spine and this increases the risk of a hip dislocation. The risk is especially high for babies younger than six months.

We believe that carrying babies has many benefits for both parents and children. But remember that carriers and supports must have a wide base, so that the child’s legs are in the M position, which does not pose a danger.

3. Walkers and jumpers

When the baby starts to move around the house, some parents give in to the temptation to buy baby walkers or jumpers🇧🇷 But there are reasons why, in some countries like Canada, baby walkers have been banned. Such products allow children to stand and walk when, in fact, their muscles are not yet ready for this. Walkers pose a great risk of trauma, as, depending on the model, the child may fall over.

Doctors also note that developmental delays are often seen among children who spend a lot of time in walkers, jumpers or us jolly jumpers (they are different products). The reason behind this is that these children waste valuable developmental time on these devices when in fact they should be learning to walk on their own.

4. Infant bath seats

One out of every three cases of drowning in children under 2 years of age is caused by child bath chairs. Some parents mistakenly think that these seats are a safety measure. The issue is that some of them blindly trust these products and end up leaving the little ones alone, which is extremely dangerous. Children can slip in the water and drown.

5. Cradles with removable sides

6. Baby blankets and pillows

The biggest risk for younger babies is that the blanket or pillow will suffocate the child. But, apart from that fact, in the specific case of pillows, they are simply unnecessary before the age of 2. Until this age, as the child’s shoulders are still not very broad and the head is proportionately larger, there is no need for support from a pillow.

7. sling (Support)

The variety of slings for babies is huge. All manufacturers promise to provide exactly what the baby needs. However, remember that the slings that parents place around their necks can pose a choking hazard for children. In such carriers, children are not able to stretch out, and their chin can be pressed to their chest, blocking their airway.

Take care. Experts suggest that all slings pose a potential danger to children younger than 4 months. As the neck muscles are weak, if the mouth or nose is covered, babies will not be able to move and may suffocate.

8. Inclined lounge chair

Parents do everything to help babies sleep better, because that’s the only way they have some free time. However, slanted lounge chairs will not help your child in this regard. Additionally, research shows that flat surfaces are the safest for a baby to sleep on, reducing the risk of suffocation.

9. Neck Float

Swimming is great exercise for babies and they don’t need any equipment for it. Neck floaters were invented for children with disabilities, but are used by some parents as a recreational item.

Experienced parents avoid this type of product because floaters prevent children from active movement in the water, making them just passively float on the surface. There is also the risk of the equipment breaking and the child drowning.

If you’re a parent, what items would you rather not buy? Is there anything you’d like to add to this list? Share your experience in the comments!
