Not long ago, Sylvester Stallone, the famous and unforgettable Rocky and Rambo, announced on his Instagram that the shooting of his new film Creed 2, the sequel to Rocky, is already underway. Stallone is not only the protagonist of Rocky: also the author himself. Writing the script for the first film (1977) took just 3 days; in those 3 days he did nothing but write.

Although, now, on his Instagram, he confesses:

“I directed, I produced, I acted… but there’s nothing more difficult than writing! Looking at the blank paper and knowing that you have to fill it with words is a daunting goal, and that’s why I congratulate the writers, already that without their hard work, there would be no movie. Every actor should try to write a screenplay sometime. It’s genius for the mind”.

Once he had convinced the producers to invest in his idea for Rocky, Stallone stood firm on one condition: he himself would be the protagonist. Producers intended the fighter to be played by an already recognized actor (Robert Redford), but Stallone stood his ground… and he did!

One of the characteristics of this actor is the expression of his mouth. This peculiarity originates from a drama: the mother had problems during childbirth and the obstetrician had to resort to the forceps method to remove the baby; so, in one bad move with that tool, he severed a nerve in Stallone’s head. At that time, no one could have imagined that this terrible mistake would give rise, years later, to one of the most original features of a box office phenomenon.

Stallone, as a child, was raised in a unique home, as his mother, Jackie, had several jobs: she was a trapeze artist, choir singer, astrologer, hairdresser, and also a representative of professional women in wrestling.

Remember the dog that accompanied Rocky to his training sessions? He also has his story: this dog was Stallone’s for real. The actor, who was in bad financial condition, could not keep his friend any longer and sold him for a few dollars to a man he trusted. Weeks after that sad farewell, Stallone signed a contract to film Rocky, returned to the man’s house and bought his own dog for a much higher price than when he sold it.

In the early 1970s, in order to pay for his dramaturgy studies, Stallone was a pornographic film actor. He later explained that he took this job because his bank account only had $20.

Before Rocky’s success, Stallone went through many tests in which he was rejected. The best known was the audition for the role of mobster Paulie Gatto, bodyguard of Vito Corleone, in the famous film The Godfather.

“I didn’t even get a cameo role for an Italian,” he recalls. “I never forgot that: it was a scene from a party, with 300 guests! And they said “no”. city ​​near Bari.
