7 tips to prevent acne and skin inflammation caused by training –

If you’ve gone a while without training, you may have noticed that fewer carnations and pimples appeared. “Working out is great for the skin in many ways, but without a skincare routine and with excessive sweating, the skin can suffer from a buildup of oil, dirt and bacteria; all of which can lead to acne and inflammation, on the face and body,” explains Dr. Roberta Padovan, postgraduate doctor in Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine.

But people don’t have to stop exercising to have healthier skin. The key is to maintain proper hygiene before, during and after workouts.

“While exercise itself doesn’t cause acne, the skin care habits you maintain during your workouts can have a significant impact on acne. As germs thrive in the gym, it’s important to maintain good hygiene while working out and after training to prevent clogging of pores and the spread of harmful bacteria.”

Below, she separated 7 tips to avoid problems:

1. Wear clean, loose-fitting, moisture-wicking clothing.

Very tight clothes and accessories, such as headbands, bra straps or lycra clothes, can cause a type of acne that occurs at the point of repeated friction, according to the doctor.

2. Remove any makeup before training.

Makeup, especially heavy makeup, can clog pores. Use an oil-free makeup remover, wipe, or micellar water to remove makeup from your face.

3. Before exercising outdoors, apply sunscreen.

The application should be applied liberally to any part of the skin not covered by clothing. “The sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays not only cause skin cancer and premature aging, but unprotected exposure can cause rashes. This is because the sun dries out the skin, leading to increased oil production. To help, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Look for formulas that are water-resistant and labeled ‘oil-free,’ ‘non-comedogenic,’ or ‘won’t clog pores,'” explains Dr. Roberta.

4. During training, keep your skin dry.

Use a clean towel to gently wipe the sweat off your body, as rubbing your skin can cause acne breakouts.

5. Clean shared equipment.

Shared workout equipment can be full of acne-causing bacteria and dirt. Most gyms provide a cleaning spray or wipes to clean the equipment. Clean equipment before and after training as a courtesy to others.

6. After training, shower immediately.

“After training, the skin is damp from perspiration and susceptible to the emergence of bacteria and the appearance of blackheads, pimples and also folliculitis, especially on the face, neck and back. Do not take hot showers and use soaps that are suitable to remove sweat, dirt and oil from your skin. Wash acne-prone skin with a gentle cleanser labeled “oil-free,” “non-comedogenic,” or “won’t clog pores.” However, if your skin tends to be oily rather than dry, consider using a cleanser with salicylic acid. If you can’t shower right away, wash your hands and wipe your face. Also, grab a spare t-shirt and get out of your sweaty clothes,” explains the doctor.

7. Always wash your gym clothes between workouts.

Even if you don’t sweat, the bacteria are still there and can cause acne. If you shower at the gym, remember to bring a change of clothes. After showering, put on clean clothes and wash dirty clothes, which are full of sweat and clog pores.

Finally, the doctor emphasizes that acne can have many causes, including genetics, hormones, stress and medications. “If you still have acne after following these tips, talk to a doctor, as there may be a different cause,” concludes Dr. Roberta Padovan.
