7 beauty recipes with milk

Most people have at least one carton of milk at home. The drink is used in recipes, consumed pure or mixed, for example, with a powdered chocolate. But what few people know is that milk can also be used as an excellent homemade beauty product!

Legend has it that Cleopatra – one of the greatest icons of beauty – was adept at a good milk bath, which renewed her skin, enhancing her power of seduction.

The explanation for milk being widely used in beauty products is that it is rich in vitamins and amino acids, a nutrient necessary for the maintenance of keratin in the hair and collagen in the skin. It also contains lactic acid, which is considered a natural exfoliant.

With that in mind, many people make their own homemade recipes in order to enjoy the benefits that milk offers, whether for the skin or hair.

But, it is worth noting that, despite the benefits, people with oily skin and hair should use these homemade milk-based products in moderation. Because it is rich in fat, the food can generate unwanted results. In cases of doubt, it is essential to talk to a dermatologist before adhering to any homemade recipe.

Below you can see some homemade milk-based recipes and learn about the benefits they can offer:

1. Romantic bath with milk and chocolate

Nothing more romantic than the aroma of chocolate, right? Even better if it is associated with the hydrating properties of milk. So this bath will leave your skin soft and smelling super nice for a special date!

Use:

  • 3 cups of whole milk
  • 5 tablespoons of chopped mint leaves
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • ½ cup of bath salts
  • 1 cup of corn starch

To prepare the bath, fill the bathtub with hot (or lukewarm, depending on your preference) water. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Then pour the liquid mixture into the bathtub and enjoy your bath for at least 20 minutes.

2. Facial scrub with milk and honey

Great tip to make your skin cleaner and more beautiful! However, if you have very dry or very oily skin, remember to consult a dermatologist before applying this homemade recipe to your face.

Use:

  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of raw oat flour

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until it forms a thick paste. Apply the mixture on clean skin and massage for a few minutes with your fingers. Rinse off the scrub with warm water and use a towel to dry afterwards.

3. Face mask with milk and aloe vera

If your goal is to exfoliate the skin and, at the same time, nourish it, a good alternative is to bet on a mask with milk, aloe vera, cucumber and honey.

Use:

  • 1 aloe vera leaf
  • ½ cucumber
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • ½ cup of milk

To prepare the homemade mask, remove the pulp from an aloe vera leaf. Add half a cucumber (previously passed through the blender), two tablespoons of honey and a little milk to give a more liquid consistency. Apply on your face for half an hour. Rinse with water.

4. Straightening with powdered milk and honey

There are even homemade recipes with milk to take care of hair. One tip is the “progressive straightening” made with powdered milk and honey. It is worth noting, however, that it should not be done on wires that are very brittle and/or damaged. If in doubt, always talk to your hairdresser!

Home straightening can be done once a week and provides progressive results: that is, it won’t straighten your hair overnight; the results will appear if the treatment is continuous. But in any case, it will make the strands shinier and softer.

Use:

  • 4 tablespoons of powdered milk
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

When using the mixture, divide the hair in the middle and apply it strand by strand, massaging with your hands. Let the straightener act on the loose hair for about an hour (do not comb the strands during this period). Then, remove the mixture with water and apply a little conditioner of your choice, then wash the strands with water again.

5. Straightening with milk and cornstarch

This homemade treatment with milk and cornstarch is suitable for people who have wavy or slightly curly hair and who want to make them smoother.

Use:

  • 1 glass of whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch

Mix the ingredients in a plastic bowl and stir well until they dissolve without taking to the fire. With dry and clean hair, apply the mixture and use a comb to pass it along the entire length. Let the product act for about 50 minutes (always keep your hair loose). Then rinse.

6. “Toner” for blonde hair

For women whose hair is dyed blonde, with highlights or highlights, milk becomes an essential beauty product!

When you notice that the strands are a little more yellow, pass milk along the entire length to achieve a much prettier blonde tone. You can put it directly on your hair, wait a few minutes, and then wash it out with shampoo and conditioner as usual.

But, if you want a more consistent mixture (easier to apply on the hair), use:

  • 150ml of milk
  • 2 tbsp powdered milk (or a little more for consistency)
  • 1 tablespoon of your favorite hair cream

Apply the mixture on the entire length and let it act for about an hour. Then rinse and wash your hair as normal.

7. Homemade recipe to remove the green from the hair

In the summer it is very common for women to spend hours in the pool, which can turn their blonde hair (dyed, with highlights or reflections) green. If this happens, a precious tip is to use milk to wash the wires.

Simply apply a significant amount of milk all over your hair and let the product sit for about an hour. Then wash your hair as usual. The green hair probably doesn’t come out in the first application, so the homemade recipe should be used more than once.

Opinion of those who have used milk as a beauty product

Letícia Fernandes, 30 years old, a tradesman, says that her hair is highlighted and that is why, whenever she enters the pool, her hair is green. “At first I was desperate every time this happened, but now I’ve learned that just applying milk to the hair goes back to its original color”, she says.

Letícia highlights, however, that she has never used homemade recipes with milk to apply to the skin. “As I have kind of oily skin, I don’t feel safe applying these homemade mixtures to my face,” she says.

Bruna de Oliveira, 27, banker, says that she has already used a recipe for milk with honey to apply on her face. “I think it gave a nice result, my skin looked cleaner, hydrated. But, in general, I prefer to buy specific products to take care of the beauty of my skin, as they are much more practical and do not make a mess at home”, she says.
