10 Tips That Will Help You Get Better If You Suffer From Dry Eyes

According to the UK’s National Health Service, 1 in 3 people experience dry eyes at least once during their lives. This problem occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears to stay hydrated or when they evaporate too quickly. This is usually due to hormonal changes, activities that force you to stare for a long time, environmental changes, contact lenses, or certain medications. Fortunately, there are several natural ways to treat dry eyes without resorting to any medication.

At the awesome.club We have compiled a list of natural home remedies that can help you to treat dry eyes within a few days.

1. Provide a humidifier

An unhealthy environment is the main cause of dry eyes in most cases, so a humidifier is the answer to your problem. It adds moisture to the environment you are in, and with more moisture in the air, the tears in your eyes will evaporate much more slowly., which will make your eyes feel more comfortable. However, it is important to ventilate the area by opening windows when you are not in the room to prevent mold from forming. Also, if you live or work in a dusty environment, consider purchasing an air filter.

2. Try a hot compress

Tears are mostly made of oil, water and mucus in equal amounts. When your eyes become irritated and inflamed, they stop the production of oil in the eyelid glands, resulting in dry eyes.🇧🇷 An easy way to relieve the irritation caused by this is to use a warm compress on your eyelids for a few minutes. The moisture from the warm cloth will help to loosen the oils clogged in the glands and relieve discomfort.

Wet a clean cloth with warm water. Squeeze out excess water and place it on your eyelids for 5 minutes. Gently press on the eyelids. Repeat daily for a week to reduce inflammation.

3. Drink more water

Drink lots of water and maintain a good state of hydration as it is the most important factor for a healthier lifestyle. It ensures the normal function of almost all of our organs, including our eyes. Water helps keep them hydrated, ensures they produce enough tears, and keeps them from drying out.

It is recommended to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink some water, because you may already be dehydrated. Always have a bottle of water by your side and take regular sips.

4. Adjust your computer screen

If you use your computer regularly, make sure your monitor is positioned correctly to minimize eyestrain. It should be at eye level or slightly below, no more or less than that.🇧🇷 What’s more, looking at a computer screen limits the number of times you blink each minute; according to a recent study, people who look at a computer blink 3 times less than people who don’t.

Adjust both the screen monitor and the brightness to a level that is comfortable for you.

Take regular breaks while you work. Rest for 10 minutes every hour and try to do something that doesn’t involve looking at a screen.

5. Keep your eyes clean

Good hygiene is critical in treating dry eyes, especially if you have been suffering from it for a long time. By cleaning your eyelids, especially the edges, you are removing debris that can build up over time and clog the oil-producing glands in your eyes. When it comes to hygiene, there are three steps you should take to keep your eyes clean and prevent them from drying out:

Fill a container with boiling water and let it cool slightly until it is lukewarm. Add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Soak a clean cotton cloth in this solution and wipe the eyelids and eyelashes. Repeat this process with a clean cotton cloth each time. Do this every day for a week.

6. Apply cucumber slices

We’ve all seen this and wondered why so many people in movies apply cucumbers over their eyes during beauty treatments, and now our questions are finally answered. Studies have shown that cucumbers can reduce puffiness around the eyes, hydrate them, and unclog the oil-producing glands in the eyes. Due to their high water content, they can moisturize the eyes and penetrate the skin to keep it hydrated and thus relieve dry eyes.

Take 2 fresh cucumber slices and apply them over your eyes. Keep the cucumbers for 15 minutes, until the slices start to dry. Repeat this treatment twice a week.

7. Nourish and strengthen with omega-3

There is no doubt that omega-3 fatty acids have many positive effects on overall health. Omega-3 molecules form parts of the cell membrane and play a crucial role in fighting inflammation and producing natural oil in the eye glands.

As per the studies that are currently carried out in ophthalmology, it has been found that there is a significant improvement in patients suffering from dry eye syndrome when incorporating omega-3 in their diets.

You can take it in supplements. Or incorporate it into your diet through foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna, flaxseeds, chia seeds, soybeans, canola oil and similar options.

8. Experiment with Castor Oil Drops

Castor oil is the only type of oil that works as a water retainer, which makes it an ideal medicine for dry eyes as it can prevent tears from evaporating🇧🇷 By applying castor oil to dry eyes, you can get instant relief and reduce discomfort.

Castor oil also creates a soothing sensation for irritated eyes. Reduces the burning sensation, redness and swelling caused by dry eyes. Due to its antibacterial properties, castor oil can also treat eye infections and prevent bacteria from entering the eyes.

9. Eat some grapes

In a survey conducted by the National Institute of Health, it was found that people who had dry eye symptoms and ate grapes for a week significantly lessened this problem. This research suggests that a Grape-enriched diet can moisten the eyes and protect the retina from deterioration, providing excellent eye care. In addition, grapes decrease the levels of inflammatory proteins and reduce oxidative stress in the body due to the high content of antioxidants.

The recommended amount of grapes is approximately one glass a day. Which is not a lot considering the various health benefits this fruit offers.

10. Get an Ayurvedic eye treatment with the Netra Tarpana

Netra Tarpana is a specialized Ayurvedic treatment that can cure various eye conditions including conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, watery eyes, corneal ulcers and inflammation. It is mainly done by an herbalist while the patient is lying down. The herbalist creates a mass and places it around the eyes; then slowly pour in the hot ghee and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

During this period of time, the patient needs to move the eyes in 4 different directions to allow the ghee to penetrate the eye socket and absorb the necessary nutrients.
