1. What the Health

Released in 2017 and billed as “the movie health organizations don’t want you to see”, this documentary examines the connection between food, diseases and the billions of dollars moved by the health system, pharmaceutical and food industries. What the Health exposes food of animal origin as highly harmful to health and cites several studies to support the theories. However, it was considered “radical” by critics, who allege that there is not enough scientific evidence for all the topics covered.

The documentary exposes agriculture as the main cause of deforestation, water waste and pollution. The result is a feature with illuminating interviews and a complex analysis of food in the world today and how it is linked to disease and climate change.

The film directed by Stephanie Soechtig addresses the obesity in the United States, especially children’s, and points to the American food industry as its main cause. With characters’ stories, interviews with health professionals and data about the disease, the documentary exposes the dangers of a diet rich in sugar and sedentary life.
