Suddenly, the shelves of pharmacies and cosmetics stores were flooded with products with the promise of shrink pores. Of course the problem has always existed. But it has never been so much on the agenda, because, in the era of high definition products, dilated pores are evident.

There are two causes: excess sebum in oily skin and loss of elasticity in aging skin. The first step to soften their appearance is a good skin cleaning, done with a beautician once a month. At home, maintain it by washing your face twice a day with soap specific to your skin type.

Then apply an oil-free moisturizer such as a gel, serum, and lotion. Night creams with salicylic acid or retinoic acid renew the texture, evening it out. Never sleep without removing makeup, as this stimulates the production of sebum and therefore enlarged pores.

Products that promise to close them act superficially and temporarily. “Some are abrasive, that is, they cause a slight peeling and can partially contract the pores. Others optically hide the problem”, says dermatologist Murilo Drummond, from Rio de Janeiro. It is worth using them, yes, but it is necessary to treat the cause as well.
