20 Sea Creatures That Look Like Sci-Fi Movies

The oceans cover nearly two-thirds of our planet and we know very little about their depths and what they hide from humanity. In them, there are some fascinating creatures; others are frightening for their bizarre appearance.

At the awesome.club we’ve selected some of the most exotic sea creatures we’ve found. One of them inspired filmmakers to create new characters. Read this post to the end as we have a hair-raising bonus.

20. Angler fish (Lophius pescatorius)

The angler fish (also known as the devil fish) lives at almost 1,500 meters deep. There are at least a dozen such fish. Its length varies between 27 and 101 centimeters and can weigh up to 49.5 kilograms. The angler fish is carnivorous, so finding it in the depths of the sea can be an extraordinary experience. If you were a small fish, you would definitely want to avoid this guy.

The elephant shark has the slowest rate of evolution in the world. For about 400 million years, its genome hasn’t changed a bit. It lives at a depth of 180 meters and can grow up to 1.5 meters in length.

These are relatively small sharks that live at a depth of 1,500 meters. In Brazil, they are known by the name of: black-mouthed cat shark. The species is not at risk of extinction, although it is heavily fished.

This squid has a great name that explains a lot about its characteristics: if the tip of the fin is cut off, the squid regenerates it easily. Eternal life!

15. Snake shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus)

Sharks are known to be deep-sea creatures and this species is no exception. The snake shark (or eel shark) lives at a depth of 1,500 meters in the ocean. Its body measures up to 180 centimeters. You won’t want to find him anywhere, so it’s good to know he lives in the depths of the sea!

Although nearly boneless and small, this fish can eat prey much larger than its own size. If you don’t reach 3,000 meters deep, you won’t find it.

This 58 centimeter fish lives 3,900 meters below sea level. It feeds on anything it can capture and kill with its teeth, sharp as needles.

This creature is a giant carnivorous crustacean, which has its habitat at 2,100 meters deep. It feeds on whales and dead fish.

The lantern fish lives at a depth of 800 meters in the Atlantic.

We don’t believe anyone would want to meet the goblin shark. It’s good to know that it lives at 1,300 meters deep.

The fish, which resembles a dragon, lives at a depth of 4,800 meters and is a predator that uses its light-producing organs to hunt its prey.

These fish live at a depth of 2,500 meters. They are known for their large, bulging eyes, which are covered in a sheer fabric. The eyes usually look up, but can sometimes change direction if necessary.

Discovered in 2003, this giant jellyfish has a distinctive red color and lives close to the sea floor, more than 1,500 meters deep. They are up to 76 centimeters in diameter. Now imagine facing it, while bathing in the Pacific on your vacation.

The giant octopus reaches up to 13 meters in length and weighs 74.8 kilograms. The creature lives in the depths of the sea at 2,000 meters and was first discovered in 2006.

Ax fish live at depths of up to 1,800 meters and produce light. Well, no one would like to live so deeply without any source of light.

If you remember the main character from the movie Alien, then here you will find his inspiration: the phronima🇧🇷 This amphipod lives in the depths of the sea, in almost every ocean on the planet, except the Arctic. It can be found at a depth of 5,000 meters. Definitely reminds me of the Alien.
