16 Funny and Heartwarming Stories Behind Tattoos That Make Them Even More Sensational

Tattoos are a form of expression, so they say a lot about their owners. Even if they are just aesthetic, they display preferences. If done on impulse, they show that we are or were a hasty person. If made out of love, that we are passionate… and so on! Motivated by whatever it is, beautiful, ugly, well-made or not so… few passages in life have as much meaning as the ones we have engraved on our skin.

We, from incredible.club, we love art and good stories. We discover in tattoos the combination of both worlds (even if sometimes it doesn’t seem like it). We made a selection of these drawings and their stories, which promise to melt your heart or make you burst out laughing. Check out!

1. Prepare the tissue

“Years ago, my grandfather passed away after an accident. Prior to that, he received 72 bags of blood, the equivalent of 9 gallons. Since then, I have been trying to return the same amount. For every gallon donated, I fill a heart. My grandfather was a giver rather than a taker, so this seemed like a great way to honor him. If you can, donate blood. There is a constant need and help is always welcome.”

2. Gloves

3. “Water”

4. At least he knows what he means

“That’s a friend’s tattoo. When asked about the meaning, he replies, “I don’t know, I don’t speak Mandarin”. Indeed, this is the translation. © chojurou / Reddit

“I knew a guy who had ‘sesame chicken’ written all over his neck. Whenever we went to a Chinese restaurant, he would order by pointing to the tattoo. Sometimes the restaurant staff were so amused that they didn’t charge for the dish. © nolabrew / Reddit

6. Medusa

“I got a tattoo to represent self-forgiveness and my connection to Medusa. According to some versions of this character’s story from Greek mythology, she was cursed by something Poseidon did to her. That is, her life was marred by something that was in no way her fault. The phrase “don’t hurt yourself” is a reminder not to punish myself for the actions of others.

7. Sexuality

“About two years ago, I told my wife that I am bisexual. She has been very supportive of me and this has brought us together and strengthened our marriage even more. I also told a few close people. Even though I still haven’t done much to recognize and accept my sexuality, I decided that it would be important to have a visible symbol that represents it. Maybe other people who are dealing with a similar issue will see my tattoo and realize they are not alone.”

8. The Silence of the Lambs

“My name was inspired by a character from the movie The Silence of the Lambs. So I decided to get this butterfly as my first tattoo.”

9. Brotherhood

“My brother and I watched the Fullmetal Alchemist series together. It’s about two brothers who lost their family and travel the world, looking for a way to fix things. In the end, they sacrifice themselves for each other. Right after the last episode, when one of them offered his life for the other, I, who was about 10 at the time, turned to my brother, crying, and said, ‘I would do this for you.’ So we agreed to get the tattoo done together. Although for many this cartoon represents just one series, for us it means much more.”

10. Do it yourself

“I bought a tattoo machine and thought I could get a tattoo myself. In short, I did and I didn’t like it. So I thought it would be a wonderful idea to try again, covering the previous drawing. Here is the result.”

11. lucky

“For years I wanted to be tattooed, but I didn’t have the courage. I saw that an artist I love was doing tattoos ‘in the dark’. I gave myself a little push and went there. He drew it freehand, which, come to think of it, is a little crazy. I was so excited to get a tattoo that I trusted, because I really like this tattoo artist’s work. I am very happy with the result!”

12. Father’s love

“This father tattooed his son’s drawing on his arm. A good idea would be to let the child do the tattoo himself.”

13. A father’s love (part 2)

“A photographer friend took amazing pictures of my son. I posted on a Reddit illustrator group and an artist offered to draw. I liked the result so much that I asked him to add my son’s name (Miles) so I could get a tattoo. He accepted. So I printed out the sketch and gave it to Miles to paint with watercolors. The tattoo artist just converted the design into a tattoo.”

14. Belle and her seal

15. A satire full of meaning

Translation: “Tattoos have to have a meaning.”

16. It seems, but it’s not

“You know those tattoos that nobody understands? So I have one (actually there are two). These symbols on my lap mean ‘Guimarães’ and ‘Martins’ in Medieval Portuguese —representing my family names. But a lot of people ask me if I’m a scientist or a mathematician, because they think it’s an equation. These people, apparently, skipped STEM classes, just like me.”
