15 tricks to keep the house tidy

Organization is much more a matter of habit than anything else. It’s no use going out in a hurry in the morning, scattering bags, coats and glasses everywhere and hoping that everything is in order when you get back. By doing this sort of thing, you create one more (unnecessary) task for later, when you could have just taken a few minutes to get things back in place right away.

Practicality has to be the keyword of the modern woman. Organizing your life well is key to keeping stress away and making the most of your time smarter and more productively. With that in mind, the architect and personal organizer Juliana Faria prepared some simple and practical tips divided by room. You’ll find that keeping your home organized doesn’t have to be that much work. Check out:

1. Don’t spread everything! Try to put things away once you’re done using them. If you can’t, institute a mess basket, where you’ll put everything you don’t have time to put away in the right place. But Juliana warns: it’s not worth letting the mess accumulate! “When you have time, return everything to its proper place.”

2. Stop creating extensions to your closet. Many women have the bad habit of hanging clothes over bedroom furniture, such as servants, chairs and even treadmills or exercise bikes. Cut this evil in the bud. Once you’re done with the piles of clutter, you’ll find what you need much faster.

3. Organize your wardrobe. Is it really necessary to put the wardrobe down every time you get ready? Certainly not. Juliana gives a good tip to help keep the closet more organized and functional: “Separate the pieces by category.” It’s worth joining blouse with blouse, jeans with jeans and even dividing clothes by color. Another tip is to use vacuum bags to store coats during the summer. “This helps to keep the piece odorless, in addition to saving space”, adds the personal organizer.

4. Less is more! “A room with a smaller number of exposed decorations is an easier room to keep clean and tidy”, recommends Juliana. She chooses her decoration items by hand. Good taste and tidiness thank you!

5. Separate magazines and newspapers. Your coffee table doesn’t have to be a paper deposit. Buy a magazine rack to store the publications you subscribe to, leaving the furniture free for decoration items, suggests the expert.

6. Multipurpose objects. Instead of throwing everything on the shelf, take a weekend to organize your books in a more beautiful way. “Place some standing and others lying down and try to work the difference in color, height and texture of each object so that it becomes interesting to the eyes”, recommends Juliana.

Kitchen

7. Vertical organizers. In addition to giving a more modern look to the environment, vertical organizers not only help to make your kitchen more organized, but also allow serving dishes and pans to be handy when cooking. Visit a housewares store and choose from the many models available, from plastic to stainless steel.

8. Hidden and functional. “The inner part of the closet door can be filled with small hooks, which will serve to hang sieves, measuring spoons and scissors”, highlights the personal organizer. Plus, you’ll free up more space in your drawers. These hooks are easily found in supermarkets. Prefer the self-adhesive versions: just remove the sticker, press for a few seconds and that’s it!

9. Standardize the pots. There’s nothing more unpleasant than opening the closet door and being surprised by a sea of plastic pots falling on top of your head. No more throwing them there anyway! “Put the lids separated by size and type into baskets. This will help when finding the right lid”, suggests the expert. A tip is to buy all the pots at once, keeping a standard size. It’s easier to store one inside the other that way.

10. Free bench! No accumulating things in the bathroom. Juliana recommends that the countertop be kept as free as possible to facilitate day-to-day cleaning. A good idea is to organize bathroom items in plastic or acrylic baskets, which will not spoil with moisture.

11. Out, Makeup! Place of make is not in the bathroom, much less of medicines and perfumes. In addition to compromising the quality of the products, the humid environment favors the appearance of fungi, warns Juliana. Store each of these items in appropriate boxes and in drier environments, such as your bedroom closet or dressing table.

12. Organize your creams. “Use plastic baskets to organize creams and other beauty products”, suggests Juliana. One option is to break them down by body part; this way, it is much easier to find what you need without having to remove everything that is in front of you every time you use a cream.

Backyards and balconies

13. Enjoy the view! If you live in an apartment, transform your balcony into a pleasant place with few things. “You can put a floor that resembles a wooden deck and complete the area with white stone. A chair and a beautiful vase with plants are a great way to enjoy the environment”, evaluates the organization specialist.

14. Enjoy the outdoors. In houses, small backyards can serve as both an extension of the service area and the leisure area, says Juliana. Install retractable clotheslines so you can change the functionality of the environment in the most convenient way for that moment. After all, is there anything better than enjoying breakfast or a Sunday lunch outdoors?

15. Dumpsters in order. Juliana recommends that trash cans be camouflaged whenever possible, but more importantly, they should always be kept clean. Cover them well, always use garbage bags and wash them weekly with water and a cleaning product.
