Has informal become the new cultural norm? Well, anything is possible on the internet and even the important British Oxford dictionary surrendered to the power of slang created on the world wide web. And every year new words are included in the online version of the publication. Those from 2015 are – to say the least – interesting. Come and see:
1. Bitch Face
In good Portuguese “cara de uó”, Bitch Face is used to designate when a person makes that “I’m better than you, honey” face.
2. Mic Drop
Expression used when someone is not happy with something or situation and “throws the microphone on the floor” which, in other words, means that that person doesn’t care about the opinion of others and wants to strike terror.
3. Manic Pixie Dream Girl
This slang is controversial — and sexist. Created from the character of Kirsten Dunst in the movie “Everything Happens in Elizabethtown”, “Manic Pixie Dream Girl” serves to designate those women who like football, drink beer with the boys and are beautiful, feminine, do everything for “their men ” and blah, blah, blah. Recently, this description gained fame when it appeared in the book “Gone Girl”. The only difference is that the author named the archetype “cool girl”.
4. Beer o’Clock
BEER TIME!
5. hangry
The junction of the words angry (bravo, in English) and hungry (hungry, in English)! If this slang were in our language, something like “bravinto” would come out. Ah, the neologisms! <3
6. Youtuber
Those boys and girls who made fame with their YouTube channels.
7. Manspreading
When a man, usually on public transport, leaves his body sprawled out, preventing other people, for example, from sitting on the seat next to him. Very difficult to keep your legs closed, right? It turned into a verbet!
8. Wine o’Clock
WINE TIME!
9. Cat Cafe
Yes, there are establishments where people pay to keep cats company. And, yes, it became a word.
10. Butt Dial
That dramatic moment when your cell phone is in your pocket, you sit down and he accidentally calls someone. So no keeping the ex’s number in the contact book, huh?!
11. Shareable
Everything that is easily “shareable” on social networks, in this case: cats, pugs and Disney princesses. 🇧🇷
