10 Movies Inspired by True Stories That Tweaked the Truth in the Name of Entertainment

Making movies based on facts is a big challenge. Faithfully portraying a particular success by creating a self-contained, coherent, self-contained narrative entails several changes from historically correct.

At the awesome.club we show you some movies that changed part of the real events to make the movie lighter.

1. In Catch Me If You Can, Tom Hanks’ Character Didn’t Exist

In Catch Me If You Can it was a lot of fun to see the remarkable FBI agent played by Tom Hanks chasing the elusive Frank Abagnale Jr., played by Leonardo DiCaprio. However, the role that fell to the actor of Forrest Gump — The Storyteller, was not a completely true character, but was a composition based on several agents who, for several years, tried to arrest Frank.

2. John Nash didn’t give an emotional Nobel speech like in A Beautiful Mind

The Oscar-winning film, A Beautiful Mind, took several licenses in telling the story of mathematician John Nash. One of the most notable is when he receives his Nobel Prize in Economics, when he gives an emotional speech in which he talks about love. In real life, he did not deliver a speech or give a reading of thanks for the award.

3. They invented characters for Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club tells a raw and moving story that won Matthew McConaughey an Academy Award for best performance. In production, some real people were eliminated (such as the protagonist’s sister and daughter) and added others, such as the nurse played by Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto’s character.

4. Michael Oher already knew how to play before being cast in the movie The Impossible Dream

An Impossible Dream tells the story of Michael Oher who, accompanied by the character of Sandra Bullock, overcomes obstacles and manages to succeed in American football.

However, Michael himself did not like the way he was portrayed in the film, since in the production, his tutor is the one who teaches him some fundamentals of the game. The player claimed “I studied, I really studied the game, since I was a kid”.

5. Unlike Captain Phillips, the captain was not as heroic as he is portrayed

Captain Phillips narrates the odyssey of a cargo ship after being boarded by a group of pirates. In the film, the captain played by Tom Hanks is portrayed as the hero who dealt with the entire tense situation.

However, many crew members who were there at the time disagreed with the film’s view, assuring that it was the captain’s own irresponsibility that put them in this situation in the first place.

6. In reality, Maria was older than Ana, unlike The Other

The other narrates the real story of the sisters Anne and Mary, and their dispute for the love of the King of England, Henry VIII. There is certainly controversy over the age difference between the two, although many historians claim that Mary was effectively the eldest of the sisters.

The film, however, decided to present Ana as the oldest and Maria as the youngest.

7. In Bom Dia,Vietnam, Adrian Cronauer was never expelled

8. There were no automobiles on board the ship, unlike Titanic

One of the most remembered scenes in James Cameron’s great film takes place when Jack and Rose meet in a car. However, although the car is recognized as “the vehicle of the Titanic”, it was not on the deck of the famous ocean liner, but in the holds of its replica, the RMS Olympic.

9. Queen wasn’t playing for years, like in Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody takes a lot of creative license in telling the story of Freddie Mercury and the legendary band Queen. One of the most notorious is related to the group’s unforgettable show at the Live Aid event. In the film, the group returns to the scene after several years. This is false, as the band had finished their tour just two months before the big show.

10. The facts of A Noviça Rebelde happened some time before

The Sound of Music is one of the greatest classics in the history of cinema, supported by the great performance of the legendary Julie Andrews. While the film is set around 1938, in reality, Maria von Trapp introduced herself to the von Trapp family a few years earlier, around 1926.

Bonus: The hotel in The Shining was inspired by a real hotel

While this is not a true story or creative license, we would like to mention the real establishment that inspired the famous setting of the Overlook hotel in both the book and film The Shining.

This is the Stanley Hotel, located in the town of Estes Park, Colorado, the target of multiple stories and rumors that could cause fear. One night there was enough for Stephen King to write the book that later inspired Stanley Kubrick’s unforgettable film.
