Throughout life we ​​make many choices. But I consider that one of the most difficult is the professional choice. Young people, barely out of their teens, need to make a decision that can define their future. In addition, they are bombarded with information about the best professions to work in and still suffer from pressure from parents and influences from their friendship groups.

In some cases, the choice of profession occurs in childhood. Children’s games and dreams end up becoming a goal in the lives of teenagers. The question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” continues to be common in children’s lives and already comes full of expectations from adults. They can choose their parents’ profession or, as they grow, they alternate preferences according to what they learn about each one.

It is positive for young people to receive encouragement from their parents to follow their own desires. However, this detachment is not an easy task for parents who think of a prosperous future for their children, since prosperity is often related to socially recognized and valued professions. Thus, some young adults end up assuming a desire that does not belong to them and soon become frustrated at the beginning of higher education.

How to make the best professional choice?

Of course there is no rule. But the best choice will be the one in which the young person feels safer and more comfortable. He needs to be able to envision his future in the profession. For those who are more indecisive and who have not been able to find their vocation, a psychologist specializing in professional choice can be essential.

However, the main thing is still the support of parents or guardians. With the certainty that regardless of the choice they will have those who love them by their side, the pressure to make the right choice is considerably reduced. And if they don’t feel ready to go to college right after they finish high school, it doesn’t cost anything to wait to make a more conscious decision, free of obligations. But, if they choose to make a choice and later discover that that desire was not really theirs, it is never too late to change and take new paths.
