World Food Day advocates healthy diets to eradicate hunger

This Wednesday (16) is celebrated the world food day🇧🇷 The date has existed since 1981 and also celebrates the creation of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)in 1945, which has as one of its main roles leading the fight for end of hunger in the world.

This year, the day, which is celebrated in 150 countries, bears the slogan “Our actions represent our future: healthy diets for a zero hunger world”. The campaign serves to draw attention to a more diversified and nutritious diet through a change in each individual and also through public policies that encourage this social transformation.

The beginning of events to celebrate the day in Brazil was on Monday (14) at National Museum on the Esplanada dos MinistĂ©rios, andn BrasĂlia, at a meeting of more than 200 people to discuss the impacts of healthy eating on people’s lives. Among the guests was beautiful Gilchef and vegan TV presenter, who stated that the main causes of death in the world today are related to non-communicable chronic diseases, caused by a poor quality diet.

“Today there is an epidemic of malnutrition, which ranges from malnutrition to obesity. We need to change the way we feed ourselves for the sake of survival,” he said.

The chef also highlighted the importance of “real food” in a world full of ultra-processed foods and that product labels are clearer when informing consumers. For Bela Gil, healthy eating, in addition to being good for the body, must respect the land, nature and value the work of family farming, which produces between 70% and 80% of the food we consume in Brazil.

Tips

On your social networks, FAO shared several simple tips on how to eat healthier. Among them are including more vegetables, fruits and grains in the daily diet, reducing the consumption of sugar, salt and processed seasonings, in addition to replacing common carbohydrates (white rice) with whole grains and opting for unsaturated fats (avocados, peanuts) instead of the saturated ones.

The organization also highlighted the importance of being aware that our eating habits impact the entire planet, and not just our health. That is why it is so important to know the origin of food and the environmental impacts of production processes. Another positive attitude is to give preference to smaller and local producers and to reduce meat consumption.
