World Cup: what’s next after the quarterfinals?

We are reaching the final stage of World Cup 2018🇧🇷 There are those who already miss you (but calm down, that Qatar 2022 it’s right there), but there are also those who don’t even know what the competition’s next steps are. We are here to clarify what are the quarterfinals and what comes after them.

Well then: the World Cup is organized in a mixed way. In the first phase, the teams were divided into eight groups of four teams each. In that first moment, all teams played against all within their groups, and the two with the most points won were classified. In case of Brazilwhich was in Group E, qualified our Selectionfirst and Switzerland in second place.

Then came the knockout phaseor as football fans like to say, the kill Kill🇧🇷 As 16 teams qualified (2 from each group), eight games are organized. are the calls round of 16🇧🇷 It is eliminatory, or “mata-mata”, because whoever loses the match is out of the championship, with no chance of returning.

The eight winners of the Round of 16 will advance to the next phase. There are four games then, the calls quarterfinals, the phase we are in at the moment. They will play Uruguay vs France🇧🇷 Brazil vs Belgium🇧🇷 Russia vs Croatia🇧🇷 and sweden vs england🇧🇷

It is important to remember that, at this point, teams are organized in brackets🇧🇷 On one side is Uruguay x France and Brazil x Belgium. On the other side, Russia vs Croatia and Sweden vs England. This is fundamental for us to understand what comes after the quarterfinals🇧🇷

Well, let’s use Brazil as an example. If our team beats Belgium (I hope so!), it will advance to the semifinals and takes the winner of Uruguay x France.

In the other bracket, the winner of Russia vs Croatia takes the winner of Sweden vs England. The semi-final losers are eliminated and go home.

In the semifinals there are four teams left, and two matches are played. The winners of each of the matches will dispute the world cup final🇧🇷 The losers compete third place. And that’s the end of the Cup.
