Michele Elizaga is a single mother who decided to have a child after 40 and today, despite all the difficulties she had to face, she is sure that becoming a mother was the best idea that ever crossed her mind.

The decision to become a single mother happened quickly and even quite unexpectedly. The year she turned 40, she felt that something very important was about to happen. However, having a baby had never crossed her mind, as she had been single for some time and thought only of finding a mate. However, one day, a friend surprised her with this idea and since then Michele has thought of nothing else.

The decision to become a mother came with a series of questions, after all, she didn’t know how things would develop in practice. However, she didn’t give up and, shortly after, she was already going through the first insemination process. She knew the odds weren’t good, but the procedure was very simple and took less than 10 minutes. Once it was over, she went home with a date to take a pregnancy test.

It didn’t take long for Michele to have little Matthew in her arms. As she had to have an emergency c-section, she was anesthetized and only met him five hours after giving birth. It was then that the doctors announced that the baby had Down syndrome, news that Michele took very positively. For her, Matthew chose to be her son for a reason, therefore, he deserved to have the best mother in the world.

When Michele found out she was pregnant, the first people she wanted to share the news with were her parents. Since they had no idea of ​​her plans, she knew the conversation wasn’t going to be easy.
At first they were shocked, but then they got used to the idea that their daughter wanted to be a single parent. Yes, they were happy for her. After that first step, Michele felt confident enough to share the news with her sisters and her best friends.

Unfortunately, Michele recently lost her father. In addition to the great support she always gave to her daughter, he was in love with Matthew and was also her biggest fan.

Matthew is now almost 5 months old, so Michele is back to working full time. In fact, she could only stay with him at home for 1 month. Although she admits that she has never been so physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted, she makes no secret of the fact that she has never felt as strong and complete as she does today.

Michele loves to go hiking, but unfortunately since Matthew was born, she hasn’t had much time for it. However, little by little she is discovering how to integrate it into her routine and recently bought a backpack so she can take it on the trails she loves to do.
When Matthew gets a little older she plans to take him stand up paddle boarding. Michele received and still receives very important support from her younger sister during this journey and this helped her to stay active.

Despite the many ups and downs of being a single mom, Michele has her own philosophy of happiness: always follow your heart, live life with no regrets, and only enter into relationships where your rules are respected.
Of course, life as a single mother is not easy, as she has to handle everything herself, but she is not afraid to ask for help to take care of Matthew when she needs it.
