If you are looking for a healthy lifestyle, you probably know that the results go far beyond the numbers that appear on the scale. And, according to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, there’s one more reason not to weigh yourself regularly: those who maintain this habit are more dissatisfied with their measurements than those who don’t practice as often.

The survey followed 1,868 young volunteers – men and women – during the weighing process. Then he asked each of them how they felt about this type of situation. The responses were quite negative, and some participants even reported feelings of depression and problems with self-esteem.

The results show that, in both sexes, the concern with weight increased. However, among the female participants, this habit (daily weighing) resulted in lower self-esteem, lower body satisfaction and also some symptoms of depression.

It is worth noting that the habit of tracking weight can have different effects on each person. And that the measures go far beyond the scale. Sometimes, the pointer may not download and you gain lean mass. Or even maintain weight and feel the jeans wider in the waist. And more: other research has already shown that negative thoughts can, yes, put on weight. So, before making the habit a must, you should assess whether it helps your diet or just increases your anxiety. Everything in balance, right?
