Why you shouldn’t wear expired makeup –

Truth be told, everyone has at least one expired beauty product in their makeup bag. This happens, mainly, when it’s the one you have an emotional attachment to, your darling, and you want to use it until the last drop.

However, expired substances can be harmful to the skin and your health, not to mention the use in vain, as many are no longer effective after the expiration of that period, explains the dermatologist. Michelle Monteiro.

“Most can be used one to three years after opening, but some products last six months or less. An example is antioxidants, which can lose their action by oxidation. The ideal is always to keep the flasks tightly closed and store them in cool places, away from light”, advises the specialist, Titular Member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.

Fortunately, most come with a symbol that lets you know the ideal usage time. Although these dates are great references, the way we store them also influences. “Once opened eyelash mascara is the perfect environment for the proliferation of microorganisms, therefore, this product should not be shared and it is ideal that it be disposed of after three months of use.”

“Foundations and concealers last longer, from one to two years. However, if the texture changes, they must be discarded before that. It is worth noting that using expired products can trigger irritation, pore clogging and/or unwanted skin reactions.”

WHAT CAN HAPPEN TO LIPS WHEN USING EXPIRED LIPSTICKS OR LIP PRODUCTS?

“The lipsticks last approximately two years after opening. The lip region is more sensitive and may be irritated by using expired products.”

“Blush, eyeshadow or powder have an average shelf life of two years after opening, and must be stored in a cool place. It is worth remembering that any product that is out of date can trigger irritation in the area where it is applied.”

“When using expired dermocosmetics, in addition to causing irritation and reactions of varying degrees, the effect proposed by the dermocosmetic will not be achieved. A tip is never to use your finger for the application, as this increases the chance of proliferation of microorganisms. To do this, use the spatula that usually comes with products in a jar.”
