Why isn’t there a Straight Pride Parade?

Since the LGBT pride parade was instituted and began to gain large proportions, every year many people ask themselves: Why be LGBT is it something to be proud of? And why do they say that it makes no sense to promote the Straight Pride🇧🇷 If some can be proud, why not others? Is it more beautiful to be LGBT than to be heterosexual and cisgender?

At first, these questions even make sense. Or at least they would, in a society where cisgender heterosexuals and LGBT people are on an equal footing. But, as much as many achievements have already been achieved, we still do not live in this scenario.

“Coming out of the closet” is still difficult. Many people are rejected in the family nucleus because of this and, in professional life, prejudice continues to be great in most areas. In living together in society, there is still a lot of fear and shame. Stop and think: how many times has a heterosexual couple felt cornered when showing affection in public? By giving a peck? When walking hand in hand?

The creation of the concept of lgbt pride did not come to clash with other people’s heterosexuality, but to create a sense of collectivity among those who are still marginalized in society. It’s to be able to say “I’m not ashamed of being the way I am”, even though we live in a society where we are taught that being that way is something wrong and reprehensible. Which is not “right”.

No one needs to put on a face to say “I’m heterosexual and cisgender, accept me”. You are automatically accepted. And that’s the big difference🇧🇷 Their rights are already largely guaranteed when it comes to sexuality and gender – whether in pure and simple society or in the legal sphere.

And that’s why it makes no sense to have a celebration of pride in being straight or cisgender. Let one thing be very clear: no one is suggesting that being born LGBT is an award to be celebrated🇧🇷 A priori, this is a genetic issue like any other. The reason for pride is the fact that coming out as LGBT in society continues to be an act of courage and struggle.
