Who is Juanito (or Julia, or Manila) in Money Heist 4?

Season 4 of La Casa de Papel has already premiered and there is a character that has us completely intrigued: Juanito or rather, Manila.

After a lot of mystery and brief cameos in Part 3 of the series, we finally learned what the true identity of Belén Cuesta’s character was.

But before telling you the whole truth about this character who has not one, not two, but three names, it is important to remember what we saw in La Casa de Papel Part 4.

What happened in Money Heist 4?

The fourth season of this successful Spanish series picks up right from the chaos in which the previous one ended:

Nairobi on the verge of death, Lisbon in the hands of the authorities, Alicia Sierra hot on the Professor’s heels and to top it all off a possible rebellion among the hostages.

And this is where the role of Juanito/Julia/Manila comes in.

Who is Juanito in La Casa de Papel?

In one of the flashbacks of the series we see how, while The Professor was planning the first heist, Moscow approaches him with his son, Denver, to ask him a favor.

He asks if he could accept a young man named Juanito, who is the son of a great friend of his named Benjamín and practically a brother to Denver.

At first The Professor refuses, saying that this is not a family business that anyone can enter.

However, Berlin convinces him by suggesting that he infiltrate Juanito inside the hostages to control them in the event of an emergency or rebellion.

However, when The Professor, Denver and Moscow go to the station to pick up Juanito, they find that he has changed sex and now calls himself Julia.

So The Professor incorporates her into the plan under the alias of Manila.

What is the importance of Manila in history?

When Gandía escapes, Berlin’s words become reality and the situation with the hostages begins to get more and more complicated.

On several occasions we see how Manila talks to Denver to tell her that everything is getting out of control, to give her a gun so she can support them.

After much hesitation, he does it… and it’s a good thing he does it! Because right towards the end of the season, Arturo Román disarms Matías and tries to incite a revolt.

Then Manila reveals her status as an insider and gives him the shot he so deserves (although it hits him in the leg).

It’s true that we didn’t see as much of this character in the new season as we expected.

However, now that we know his identity, it is possible that in the fifth season of Money Heist, Manila will become relevant in order to function as a replacement for leaving Nairobi.
