David R. Hawkins, MD, Ph.D., was a scientist, physician, psychiatrist, researcher, professor of ecumenical spirituality, and an internationally renowned author.

His contribution to humanity was unique mainly because of the advanced state of spiritual awareness known as “Illumination”, “Self-realization” or “Unio Mystica”.

doctor David Hawkins entered the field of medicine to alleviate human pain and suffering. His work was pioneering and brought great advances to medicine.

As medical director of the North Nassau Center for Mental Health (1956–1980) and director of research at Brunswick Hospital (1968–1979) on Long Island, his practice was the largest psychiatric clinic in the United States, including a suite of twenty-five offices. , two thousand outpatients and several research laboratories.

In 1973, he co-authored the groundbreaking work, Orthomolecular Psychiatry, with Nobel Prize-winning chemist Linus Pauling, starting a new field within psychiatry.

Her clinical findings brought her appearances on the Today Show, the Barbara Walters Show, and the Mcneil/Lehrer Newshour. In the 1970s, Hawkins co-founded several psychiatric organizations, including the Editorial Board of the Journal of Schizophrenia and the Attitudinal Healing Center in New York.

Many awards followed, such as the Huxley Award for “Inestimable Contribution to the Alleviation of Human Suffering”, American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award, 50 Year Distinguished Life Companion by the American Psychiatric Association, Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame, and a nomination for the prestigious Templeton Prize, which honors progress in Science and Religion.

In 1995, in a ceremony officiated by Crown Prince Valdemar of Schaumburg-Lippe at San Anselmo Theological Seminary, he was made a knight of the Sovereign Order of Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem (founded in 1077) in recognition of his contributions to humanity.
