What is visceral fat and why is it important to reduce it?

Visceral fat is the accumulation of this tissue in our body not in the subcutaneous layers of the waist and thighs, but around the abdominal organs. It is more dangerous than regular subcutaneous fat and avoiding it is much more difficult. The latter can be surgically removed in extreme cases, but doctors have not yet learned how to cut through the visceral layer.

At the awesome.club we find essential information about visceral fat so you understand what it’s all about and stay healthier.

Why is it so dangerous?

Visceral deposits are really important for the body as they protect the internal organs from the effects of the environment. However, your total mass should not exceed 10% to 15% of your total body fat.

Gaining more visceral fat than is recommended is a health hazard. Its excess can cause diseases such as:

Varicose veins, as there is excessive pressure on the legs Myocardial infarction Oncological diseases Hormonal disorders Violation of metabolic processes in the body

How does it differ from subcutaneous fat?

Our body needs subcutaneous fat. It is responsible for replenishing energy reserves, giving us vitality and keeping us warm when it is cold. As you know, it is stored in our body by the consumption of food. But, if you eat too much or too often, your body starts to reserve it not in the subcutaneous layer, but directly near the internal organs. And that’s visceral fat.

There is usually an increase in fat around the stomach, liver, gallbladder, intestines, kidneys and genitals.

Its excess blocks the flow of blood and lymph to the internal organs. The ventilation of the lungs worsens and the oxygen in the body becomes unbalanced, causing difficulty breathing and sleeping.

where does it come from?

Excessive accumulation of visceral fat is mainly caused by a genetic predisposition. But our way of life also plays an important role in this. For example, many know that men (even thin ones) can create the so-called “beer belly”. Drinking and consuming sugar and carbohydrates end up creating this fat deposit.

After menopause, regardless of body structure and shape and genetic predisposition, a woman’s body dramatically reduces estrogen production and the chances of gaining more visceral tissue increase significantly.

Therefore, people with hormonal imbalance, metabolic disorders and a sedentary lifestyle are at the greatest risk of suffering from this problem.

How can it be measured?

To determine the amount of dangerous fat in our body, it is always better and more recommended to go through a medical consultation and undergo laboratory tests. But if you want to do a quick test, here’s a way:

A simple way is measure your waist. If the circumference is within the generally accepted standard, then you don’t have to worry about an overabundance of internal fat. For women, the acceptable limit is up to 88.90 centimeters and, for men, up to 93.98 centimeters.

Most importantly: how to get rid of that unwanted fat?

First and foremost, you need to adopt a healthy diet. Increase your vegetable intake as our total daily food intake should consist of 70% fruits and vegetables. Reduce the consumption of animal fats (butter, veal or pork) and similar of vegetable origin (palm oil and coconut oil).

It is also necessary to avoid trans fats that are used to create many natural oil substitutes (the so-called margarine, a cheap imitation of butter, for example). In addition, this ingredient is often used in the preparation of cupcakes, muffins, cookies and other similar foods.

Check your diet and eliminate foods with a high glycemic index. Such products dramatically increase blood sugar, which leads to a lack of control over insulin synthesis.

Try to minimize the consumption of alcoholic beverages. And not only alcohol, but also cut down on sandwiches. Replace white bread with products made from wholemeal flour. Eat fiber-rich foods to cleanse the intestines. Forget about pleasurable but unhealthy snacks. Nuts, dried fruits, citrus fruits and raw vegetables are an indispensable alternative to unhealthy sandwiches.

It is the most Importantly, try to find time to exercise regularly. Burn visceral fat with intense physical activities such as running, swimming, cycling, playing football, dancing, tennis or walking, for example. The main enemy of internal fat is physical activity. Move more and follow the rules of healthy eating. You will see how this fabric will be shed day after day, like ice cream on a summer’s day.
