Vegetable soup, omelet, salads, lots of pasta and even lasagna and pizza, small portions served in a thousand ways. Some countries take care of the presentation, others not so much. Recipes are mixed from one country to another by their different hospitals, which even includes Italian recipes in the US and Thailand. In any case, it always seems that little attention is paid to food when we or a relative of ours are in a hospital.
It’s clear that no one wants to be in a hospital. There, as a rule, people feel sad, lonely and unmotivated, and the food loses all its charm. But there are countries in which patients’ diets have an impact due to their diversity or even being unhealthy.
we, from awesome.clubwe have collected for you 15 examples of different menus that are offered to patients in hospitals around the world.
UK
Hospitals don’t spoil the British too much: for breakfast, they get cereal with milk and, for lunch, chicken in tomato sauce, accompanied by conchigliones (pasta in the shape of large shells).
Finland
In Finland, apparently, they believe that vegetables are never enough, so they serve a vegetable stew with boiled carrots, salad, Greek yogurt sauce and a slice of bread. Therefore, in the hospital it is better not to stay too long: you run the risk of becoming a herbivore.
Japan
No sushi, temaki or chuka salad. The menu at Japanese hospitals usually includes vegetable soup, salad with omelet chips, boiled rice, kiwi and plain yogurt. We are invaded by a question: does yogurt also need to be eaten with chopsticks?
Australia
In Australian hospitals, the menu usually consists of mashed potatoes, peas, boiled carrots and slices of homemade sausage. But you’ll agree with us that the puree is served in a sophisticated way: like a scoop of ice cream.
China
In Chinese hospitals, patients often have a tasty and plentiful meal: creamy soup, boiled rice, chicken with mushrooms, tofu cheese, pudding with syrup and osmanthus tea.
What food! All I see is a gravy boat! A gravy boat in the hospital, Carl!
singapore
In Singapore, patients are usually served with bean sauce, hamburger, boiled cabbage, toast with jam or honey, and hot chocolate.
But look at how the plates and cutlery are placed on the tray! A unique world for perfectionists to enjoy.
France
Here you would expect to see fresh baguettes and fragrant croissants, but instead they serve a piece of “simple” bread. And there’s no escargot, no herbed pasta or omelet pieces. Of course, the fresh strawberries enchanted us!
Estonia
The menu of Estonian hospitals reminds us of the daily menu of our school canteens: vegetable soup, mashed potatoes with hamburger and grated beetroot, a muffin and, of course, fruit compote. And then… At recess!
Germany
Poor Germans! It’s hard to eat baked fish with sour cream when you’re used to sausages well browned on the grill. And a good beer doesn’t wait for you: just a vegetable salad, cream soup and potatoes.
Philippines
In the Philippines, patients are apparently groomed to be role models: small portions of diet dishes, salad, chicken pieces with soy sauce, boiled rice and pineapple for dessert.
United States
Hospitals in the United States are the only ones that have met the expectations of their patients: they serve a juicy, hot pizza. All you need is a good series or a movie!
thailand
In Thailand, patients end up enjoying Italian cuisine: spaghetti carbonara with garlic bread.
Switzerland
For patients in Switzerland, pea soup, cheese salad, bread and butter, lettuce leaves with boiled ham, eggs and spices, as well as a biscuit sprinkled with powdered sugar.
The cookies, by the way, could be… at least two!
Sweden
In Sweden, for lunch they serve chicken in sauce with slices of avocado, pieces of cucumber and a salad. But they forgot dessert. Not even half a cookie!
Malaysia
It is worth visiting Malaysian hospitals to take pictures of their menu. The dishes look like they were made for Instagram!
But unfortunately, judging by the comments of their patients, they are either not hot enough or they are too salty. The menu includes the following: salad, sausage, fried eggs, beans with sauce, cheese toast and hot chocolate.
