What 11 ‘Doctor Strange’ Stars Looked Like Early In Their Career

The universe of Marvel superheroes is huge and every day it gets bigger; even with the end of the Avengers some heroes are still scattered around and continue with their individual stories. That was the case with Wanda Maximoff and Clint Barton, who got an entire series all to themselves; and Stephen Strange won another film to tell his story.

With that, we awesome.clubwe decided to gather 11 actors who participated in Doctor Strange and remember how they were at the beginning of their career.

With each passing year Benedict Cumberbatch gains more prominence in audiovisual. The actor has already won awards for his character Sherlock Holmes, in the series of the same name, in addition to statuettes in the theater. The highlight became even greater after he entered the world of superheroes in 2016, as Doctor Strange, starring not only in the film in which he is the central character, but also in the rest of the Marvel saga.

Maybe you know that last name or even recognize that little face, and yes, Elizabeth Olsen is the sister of the Olsen twins, who were very successful in the 1990s. However, the younger sister took a little longer to get into the world of cinema. As a child, she played roles of little prominence, and it was only in 2011 that she won the role of Martha in Martha Marcy May Marlene. Since then, she has been making film after film, including Avengers, in which she introduced the powerful character Wanda Maximoff, who in 2021 won her own series on Disney +.

Patrick Stewart has a decades-long career in audiovisual, including films and series that unite from the oldest to the children, as is the case of Star Trek and X-Men. And it is precisely in the role of Professor Charles Xavier that he returns to the world of heroes, this time in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Prior to that, he had already donned the mantle of mutant mentor six times.

Rachel McAdams started in the movie business in 2002, but her breakthrough came in 2004 as Regina George in Mean Girls. The same year she starred in a stark opposite, Allie Hamilton, in The Notebook. The actress eventually became a much-seen face in film and in 2016 she starred in Doctor Strange. So many films have earned many award nominations, including one for an Oscar for Spotlight.

Benedict Wong shares the same name as his Doctor Strange character, Wong. The character is very important for the development of the main character, however, he is not always in Stephen’s shadow: in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings he was there, alone, following his own path. But anyone who believes that the actor’s career began at Marvel is wrong, it all started on television participating in series.

Tilda Swinton’s career is extensive, the actress brings together dozens of successful films, which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Michael Clayton and a Golden Globe nomination for The Deep End. In the world of heroes, she first appeared in Doctor Strange, as Ancient One, Sorcerer Supreme and Stephen’s mentor.

Mads Mikkelsen is a Danish actor who has been quite successful in Hollywood, having already been part of the Marvel universe and also of Harry Potter, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In the world of heroes he participated as the villain Kaecilius, in the first Doctor Strange. However, before that, the actor already collected nominations and awards for other performances, including the film A Caçada, a drama film released in 2012.

In 1988, Benjamin Bratt participated in the film Juarez, as the protagonist, but gained prominence even in Law & Order, which has been on the air for 32 years; the actor joined in 1995 and left in 1999. Since then, he has starred in several productions, including Doctor Strange, in which he plays Jonathan Pangborn, a boy who was healed by the Ancient One and takes Stranger to the Kamar-Taj. But anyone who believes that this is his first time in superhero movies is wrong – a few years earlier he participated in Catwoman, as Detective Wade Handler.

Chiwetel Ejiofor has been acting since 1996, but gained even more notoriety in 2013 when he portrayed Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave. With this film, he received nominations for several awards such as the Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award. In 2016, he participated in Doctor Strange, as Baron Mordo, who in the comics is Stephen’s rival, but in the film he was presented as a friend.

In WandaVision we are introduced to new characters, among them Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s son with Visão. The little boy inherits his Uncle Pietro’s powers, such as superhuman speed. This isn’t little Jett Klyne’s first role; he made his first appearance in Boneco do Mal and since then has been participating in several feature films.

Julian Hilliard is another actor who made his debut in the world of heroes in WandaVision, he is Billy, Tommy’s twin brother. The little boy inherited his mother’s powers, such as telepathy and telekinesis, and in the comics he became known as Wiccan. This wasn’t the boy’s first performance either; in 2018, he worked on The Haunting of Hill House, Netflix’s horror series.
