Veil, mantilla, voilette… Get to know the different types of veils and choose yours!

Although not a mandatory item in the bride’s look, the veil is one of the most traditional elements in women’s look for the big day.

Normally made of tulle, it can also be made of other fabrics, as long as they are light and fluid, with lace and rhinestone details. The length of the veil varies according to the bride’s personality and the style of the wedding ceremony. And it is the length that determines the name of each model. While some brides opt for models of many meters, others prefer to cover only part of the face.

To help you choose the perfect accessory for your big day, we have listed the main characteristics of each veil model. Choose the one that best suits your style (and dress):

Long veil or cathedral: It is longer than the train of the bride’s dress, usually between two and five meters in length. It is the most formal version of the accessory and matches church weddings at night. The dress must have a train and beaded embroidery.

chapel veil: Shorter than the cathedral veil, the chapel is usually knee or ankle length. It is a model suitable for dresses with tighter cuts.

Fingertip Veil: As the name already says, this type of veil has a length that does not exceed the tip of the bride’s fingers. It is lighter and more informal, matching well with all types of long dresses.

shoulder veil: It goes well with daytime weddings where the bride will wear short, loose dresses.

Voilette: A vintage accessory that marked the 20s, 30s and 40s, the voilette is on the rise again. It is a veil that only covers the face or part of the head. Usually used with a head accessory (flower or fascinator), it is indicated for more informal and daytime ceremonies.

Mantilla: Of Hispanic origin, the mantilla is usually made of a thicker fabric, having more weight than a traditional veil. The lace details are well-crafted and cover the entire length of the piece. As it is a very striking accessory, it is recommended to wear it with more classic dresses with few details.
