TV Cultura will not record new episodes of the program “Viola, Minha Viola”

After 39 years on air, the longest-running program on TV Cultura comes to an end. According to the Notícias da TV website, the station revealed that it does not intend to produce new episodes of Viola, My Viola, but rejects that the show has come to an end, since old episodes will remain on the grid. The latest editions, commanded by the singer and presenter Adriana Fariaswere recorded in 2018.

O Viola, My Viola aired for the first time on May 25, 1980, hosted by Moras Sarmento and Nonô Basílio, and received big names in Brazilian music. one of them was Inezita Barroso, who would later become a presenter, a position she held until 2015, the year of her death. After a brief hiatus, Adriana Farias, who already attended the program at the time of Inezita, took over until last year.

Viewers will still be able to watch reruns of the program, which air every Sunday at 7 am on TV Cultura.

To CLAUDIA, the station’s press office sent the following statement:

“TV Cultura will not remove Viola, Minha Viola from its broadcast schedule. The production of the country music program in the traditional format with the presence of guests, regional and audience was ended shortly before the death of Inezita Barroso, who was in charge of the attraction for 34 years and became the main icon of country music on Brazilian television . With her immense baggage of folkloric knowledge, Inezita was the soul and essence of the Viola, a fact that made it practically impossible for any other artist to present the attraction, no matter how talented he might be.

Bearing in mind the importance of the program for the history of the station and its relevance to a captive and loyal audience, in 2017, the station launched, as a tribute, the Viola, Minha Viola – Especial, which featured violist Adriana Farias to take the viewer on trips through the program’s rich collection, in clippings that followed themes, musical genres or artists whose trajectory was recorded by the attraction. Precisely because it is a tribute, based on images previously recorded and shown, the project has already been launched with a forecast of how many episodes would be produced and all the planning was fulfilled to the letter. The recordings of Viola, My Viola – Special were closed in October 2018 and the unreleased aired until January 2019.

Now, this content remains on TV Cultura’s schedule, preceding the transmission of the Missa de Aparecida, at a time that will best serve the program’s audience. TV Cultura understands the importance of an attraction like the Viola, My Viola on Brazilian open TV and, with the continuous broadcast of the program, without any interruption, it continues in its mission and commitment to disseminate and value regional and country culture.”
